Harrogate Round Table annual Stray fireworks, will once again include a bonfire, is confirmed to take place on Saturday 4th November 2023 on the Stray near Oatlands.

Date: Saturday 4th November 2023 Time: 17.00 until 20.30 Location: Oatlands Stray near St. Aidans School

There’s also set to be a licensed bar run by Vintage Event Bars, as well as soft drinks, cans, water, tea and coffee.

The event will finish at around 8:30pm.

  • Live Music: Tap your feet and dance to the tunes of local bands and musicians as they set the stage for a harmonious evening. Three Strikes band are already confirmed to play for the 2nd year running, more will be announced in the coming weeks.
  • Delicious Food and Beverages: Enjoy a variety of delectable food and beverages from the Local Scouts, ensuring you stay fueled for a night of excitement. They will be providing a selection of hot food for the public. They will be supplying hungry visitors with: burgers, sausages, hotdogs and vegetarian options. As well as a selection of soft hot and cold drinks.  Proceeds from the food and soft beverages are the only form of income at the event for many of the scout groups involved.
  • There is also going to be a licensed bar run by Vintage Event Bars, serving a selection of Alcohol.

The Harrogate Stray Bonfire is a charity event and all money raised will be going to the Harrogate Homeless Project. Matthew Firth, who is one of the people responsible for planning this year’s event, has chosen to support the Harrogate Homeless Charity for the 2nd year running because: “It is important that we help end homelessness on the streets of Harrogate. Especially going into wintertime when the mercury regularly drops below freezing and these poor people, often through no fault of their own, end up on the streets.”

Harrogate Stray Bonfire Night is made possible by the support of the generous public who can donate on the night of the bonfire by either putting cash in our collection boxes or by using one of the card machines that will be circulating Oatlands Stray.

October half term at Beningbrough – match, measure and make
Saturday 28 October – Sunday 5 November 2023

Pick up the new family trail, just for the school holidays, to help you make the most of the season. Match the colours you find as you explore, measure the biggest and smallest leaf you can find and make some origami.

Head to the wilderness play area as part of your day out, test out your climbing skills on the two sizes of clamber stack. Two slides are on offer to suit all ages, with a climbing wall and rope bridge to the big one. There are several swings to choose from, the cantilever bucket seat is large enough to hold a few friends. If you prefer making your own adventure, try the den zone and get building.

Coats and wellies might be needed, and dirty knees and hands might be made, alongside the memories of an autumn adventure together.

Free entry for National Trust and RHS members and under-fives.

Join Harrogate Maternity Voices Partnership for a community event on Sunday 29th October 2023.

A free event with activities, stalls and information on pregnancy and parenting in the Harrogate area.

We will be showcasing what is on offer in Harrogate during pregnancy and postnatally. There’ll also be lots of fun for older siblings too.

It will take place at Quaker Friends Meeting House, 12a Queen Parade in Harrogate on Sunday 29th October from 2pm to 4pm.

North Yorkshire Council and Rascals Entertainment are bringing back the Creepy Castle Spooktastic Halloween trail this half-term at Knaresborough Castle Grounds, but with an addition of the ‘Tween Scream’ event for the slightly older children (aimed at 8-14 years old).

Join Dr Tricks on Friday 27 October at our ‘Tween Scream’ trail for his Halloween magic show, watch the amazing Golden Wizard with his mesmerizing spectacular LED Buugeng show, and come into the castle for the scary interactive story time where you may also see a few ghosts and ghouls too…but will you dare to put your hand in the mystery holes? Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for LED Tick Tock dancing characters in the distance too.

For the slightly younger children we will be hosting our original spooktastic Halloween trail (aimed at 4-10 years old, under 2’s go free) from Saturday 28 – Monday 30 October. Along the way you’ll see wizard magic shows, spooky characters, face painting*, stories in the castle and more spooky surprises. There’ll also be chance for some trick or treating along the trail and to get some amazing photos with those monsters and spooky characters too.

The North York Moors is one of only 21 locations in the world to be recognised for pristine, dark skies. We’re an International Dark Sky Reserve, awarded by the International Dark-Sky Association.

This exciting 10-day festival has an events programme jam packed full of exciting after dark adventures for the full family to explore. It will only prepare you for what’s to come in our ninth Dark Skies Festival, taking place in February 2024…

From 28 October to 5 November 2023 10.30am – 5.30pm, a cloak of supernatural shrouds the adventure park with a schedule of fun and creepy tricks and treats perfect for the under 12s and all the family.

Ghouls and beasties lurk in the shadows of the valley, with friendly frights plus mini and mega scares. Halloween fun is jam packed in the valley this year with everything you’d ever expect and more … it’s certainly Halloween with knobs on at Frightwater Valley!

Knock very loudly at the Trick or Treat Doors and find out which ghastly ghouls or wicked witches will meet you; you can grab a photo with your most ghastly ghoul or bothersome beasties and take a walk down Icon Avenue to meet a whole host of Halloween movies characters.

Join in at the Show Barn for a family friendly sing-along show guaranteed to keep your little monsters laughing all day; enter the Live Scare Maze – it’s family friendly during the day but as dusk falls you’ll to tread ‘scarefully’ as the darker the night, the scarier the fright!

Get into the spirit of Frightwater and come dressed in your scariest Halloween costume, there’ll be lots of prizes and winners picked each day; take part in our Fearsome facepainting; follow our Tombstone Trail around the park to find all 13 hidden tombstones – find them all and win a spooky surprise and join in with the Boo Crew for an epic finale to Frightwater Valley with your best dance moves with prizes for the best movers and shakers.

It’s fearsome fun plus all the usual rides and attractions will also be open from 10.30am, so you can have a fun-filled, frightening day full of chills, thrills and spills for the whole family!

As if you needed more, Sunday 5 November sees Fabulous Fireworks from 5.15pm for a 15 minute display choreographed to music over the Swan Lake for all our visitors in the park that day.

Pumpkin picking at Horsforth PYO – opening on Saturday 30th October with dates throughout October right up to Halloween. With over 70 thousand pumpkins planted this year and lots of different varieties to choose from, pick your pumpkins from the field they were grown in. Whether you wish your pumpkin mini, small or even jumbo, warty, white, pink, blue, yellow or orange of course, the choice is yours.

The Kemp family have been farming in Horsforth for over 70 years. Come along to their pick your own and join in the Halloween fun – the tractor and trailer ride will take you down to the picking fields to start your pumpkin adventure. Pick up a wheelbarrow and off you go. There are lots of Halloween photo opportunities around the farm to add to the occasion. Afterwards our talented face painters are ready to transform you (for an additional cost) into your Halloween favourite. Our pop-up café will also be open to provide refreshments.

Halloween Creepy Carnival at Mother Shipton’s

Come and crunch in leaves at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal this October half term.

Autumn is one of the most colourful times of year to visit Fountains Abbey as the trees are looking their best, dressed in deep reds, bright yellows and shining golds. Put your wellies on, wrap up warm and marvel at this super seasonal show as you walk, run and explore around the estate.

Keep your eyes peeled for some of the autumn delights. See if you can spot any fat sweet chestnuts bursting open. Hear the stags roaring in the deer park as they compete for status in the annual rut? Feel the leaves crunch beneath your feet. What other autumn delights will you discover?

Get adventurous on a family day out during October half term. Zip, wobble and climb your way through the play area, wander through the abbey and become a water garden explorer, climbing up the Octagon Tower and through the dark Serpentine Tunnel.  Grab your ’50 things to do before you’re 11 3/4 ‘ check list from any admission point and explore the estate, ticking off things like… getting to know our trees on the Tree Trunk Trail, den building and even star gazing and watching the sun set if you come along to Fountains by Floodlight.

Halloween Hauntings

Spend some spooky time at Temple Newsam this Halloween half term! Meet the past residents of the estate including the notorious Blue Lady and see the house and farm dressed up for a truly spooktacular occasion. Get involved with creepy crafts and pick-up a camera to track down the ghosts of Temple Newsam House.

On 31 October join us in the Walled Garden for free pumpkin carving from 1-3pm. Don’t forget to bring your own or carve the one that you sowed at our April event!

There’s also spooky cellar tours on selected dates. Go behind the ropes and under the stairs on an exclusive tour of the darkened cellars complete with terrifying tales. Please note that our tours are suitable for guests aged 7+!

SEN Fossil dig

Dissecting Stories of the Forgotten 
Join us this half-term as we tell the chilling history of surgery and dissect the forgotten stories of the inhabitants of Leeds Union Workhouse.
These free and fascinating activities are included in your museum ticket and have been designed with all the family in mind. Show and Tell: Beckett Street Bodies is recommended for those aged 12+ and is perfect for those keen to learn more about the history of medicine.Activity runs every day of the holidays. JOIN US THIS HALLOWEEN AND HALF TERM FOR OUR PUMPKIN POP UP!DATES: Saturday 21st October – 5th November 2023

Price: £5 per pumpkin picker (including £3.50 worth of pumpkin – approximately a medium size)

Yolk Farm is an amazing place for a day out! They have a frightful selection of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes in our amazing pumpkin patch, where you’ll find our unique selfie spots too, as well as a carving barn.

They have an awesome egg restaurant on site, as well as their new play barn – The Yard At Yolk – with role play stations, a giant sand pit and mini trikes, as well as amazing coffee and snacks for hungry grown ups.  Pick up some delicious local produce for tea at their on site farm shop.

Don’t forget to wear your costumes, and you might even see a curious chicken or two along the way.

This event was very busy last year – book early to avoid disappointment.

There’s more varieties of pumpkins than ever at Yorkshire Pumpkins this year – new for this year are our beautiful pink pumpkins! Whether you’re after a ginormous orange pumpkin to carve, a delicious eating pumpkin to cook with, or a beautiful candle pumpkin to decorate enjoy wandering through the pumpkin patch and finding your perfect pumpkin.

We grow all our pumpkins here on our family farm and farmers David and Rob will be in the field to answer all your questions about how we grow them!

We’ll also have fun for all the family – from our bale mountain and maze for the bigger kids, to the toy tractors and pumpkin wash for the smaller ones.

Our pop up pumpkin cafĂŠ will be back, as well as the delicious Stable Pizza Co.

Please book your tickets in advance online, tickets are ÂŁ1.50 per person and include all activities. Everyone needs a ticket except babes in arms.

Yorkshire Pumpkins is open 7th & 8th October, 14th & 15th October, 21st & 22nd October then every day 28th-31st October from 10am to 4pm. New for this year are our after school sessions on 26th & 27th October when we’re open from 11am to 5pm!
