Next Tuesday 1st of August sees the launch of Adversity United a new Harrogate based football club for primary school children, geared to help disabled boys and girls play their favourite sport.
The new club, the brainchild of 16 year old Cameron Osburn has won the support of his school Harrogate Grammar, where the club will train from September; Pannal Sports JFC who will assist with admin and equipment; Paul Bird the regional FA Disability Director and Gambaru Fitness who through their Adversity Awards charity will be sponsoring the team.
Cameron’s goal is to help children engage in sport and build confidence before they move up to secondary school. He’s already had a great response and is excited by the prospect of helping to change young people’s lives. ‘Living with Cerebral Palsy, I know having a disability doesn’t impact the passion you have for sport; you just need to find a way to play it. Adversity United is about bringing boys and girls together who love football but can’t access it through the conventional clubs.
Whether you’re physically disabled, have learning difficulties or are on the autistic spectrum this is a club for everyone.”
Cameron sporting achievements include an adult Black belt in Silat an Indonesian martial art, trials for
England’s FA CP Team Development Squad, and a 2017 National Cup winner’s medal with the North
East Cerebral Palsy Football team. Since becoming the Boys Ambassador for Gambaru Adversity Awards last year, Cameron’s progress has been accelerated by working with Harrogate based life coach Mike Pywell a co-founder of the Awards. “Cameron is an exceptional young man, he may be only 16 but there are no limits to what he can achieve. He’s a fantastic example of someone who does not let their adversity define them, he just powers on. It’s a privilege to help him realise his dreams, and for such a great cause.”
For those interested in the club, there is a taster session next Tuesday 1st August on the Stray Rein
Stray from 5.30 to 6.30pm. Anyone interested in playing or helping the club in is urged to come along. To help planning on numbers please email Cameron at firstname.lastname@example.org or call him on 0748 855433
