Hello and welcome to PQA Harrogate,
I thought I’d give you a little insight into the world of PQA Harrogate. We are based in Harrogate Grammar School every Saturday morning from 9.45-1pm and 1.45-5.00pm.
At the Academy, students are split into age groups and spend 3 hours rotating between different classes all taught by our expert teachers. Modules include:
* Comedy & Drama – this module teaches students about a variety of different theatrical forms and techniques including improvisation, mime, masks, physical theatre, script-work and much more.
* Musical Theatre – this combines singing, dancing and acting, to teach students to move seamlessly from dialogue to song and dance within one performance.
* Film & TV – in this class students will discover and develop their talents both in front and behind the camera. As PQA is the largest provider of film and television education in the UK for under – 18s, this is truly the place to be for any budding filmmakers!
Through these classes, students have the opportunity to take part in masterclasses, where they learn skills from special effects make-up, to stage combat, to how to present children’s TV. Students also have the opportunity to perform on a West End stage and walk the red carpet in Leicester Square before watching their own short film on the big screen!
Students are given the opportunity to take part in group exams offered by international exam board Trinity College London. These exams are recognised throughout the world by educational authorities.
We also offer students the chance to become part of the Quirky Kidz agency dedicated to finding PQA pupils professional work in the performing arts. Through the agency some of our students have taken up roles in Les Misérables, Matilda, Doctor Who, Emmerdale and Star Wars, just to name a few.
Every weekend at our Academy is different! Our students have just performed at The Harrogate Royal Hall with the amazing Musical Theatre Singing Group Collabro. This year we will also be joining the amazing Vocal Harmony Group G4 at Ripon Cathedral as part of their UK tour. We are currently working on our very own Roald Dahl adaptations of The Twits, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In Film and TV students are writing, directing and staring in not one but six short films!
That’s not all! We are currently rehearsing for our upcoming performance of Trouble’s A Brewin at Her Majesties Theatre, West End London – home to the world class musical Phantom of the Opera.
So now is a great time to to get involved in PQA and join our performance at the West End and attend our very own Cinema Screening. Request your FREE info pack here, and book your FREE taster session today!
We look forward to seeing you at PQA!
