St Peter’s believes in making world-class education accessible to talented and dedicated students from all backgrounds. To help achieve this, we offer a variety of bursaries and scholarships designed to support students in their academic and extracurricular pursuits, ensuring that financial considerations don’t stand in the way of potential.
Many people are not aware that this can amount to 100% off fees – and St Peter’s is encouraging more applications for September 2025. In 2024 they offered 47 bursaries, which has increased from 30 in 2021.
Sixth Form pupil and bursary recipient Bracken gave permission to share her story:
“This is my dream school. Every teacher is dedicated, thoughtful and always goes above and beyond. The fantastic teaching styles have inspired me to dig deeper into my subjects.
There are a multitude of opportunities at St Peter’s, and I have embraced as many as I can, joining numerous activities such as school and Chapel choir, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and rowing. Singing with my choir at St George’s Chapel in Windsor was a once in a lifetime experience that I will always remember.”

St Peter’s School offers means-tested bursaries that provide significant financial support for families for families who would not otherwise be able to afford fees. These bursaries are designed to ensure that a St Peter’s education is accessible to all talented students, regardless of their financial background. Local families are prioritised, so they encourage you to find out more if your child would enjoy the exceptional, varied learning opportunities that St Peter’s offers.
Bursaries are awarded based on financial need and are available to new students entering the school at 11+, 13+, or 16+ entry points. The amount of the bursary is determined through a confidential assessment of family income and circumstances.
St Peter’s School is committed to providing a well-rounded education that helps students achieve their full potential. Our bursaries and scholarships reflect our dedication to supporting the brightest minds and talented individuals, regardless of their financial background. With access to 50 acres of land in the centre of York, outstanding facilities, expert staff, delicious and nutritious catering and an incredible range of extracurricular opportunities all included within fees, St Peter’s offers an environment where students can thrive and make lasting memories.
St Peter’s also offer music scholarships, which are available to young instrumentalists and singers who can offer a broad range of skills to the Music School at 13+ and 16+ entry. The awards can offer a concession on fees ranging from 10-30%. This may be increased for exceptional candidates and can be further supplemented by means-tested bursaries. The award also covers tuition on up to three instruments and instrumental examination fees.
For those with outstanding academic ability, St Peter’s offers Academic Scholarships. These honorary academic scholarships are awarded to pupils who perform exceptionally well at GCSE to support high-achieving students throughout their time at the school. These scholarships do not come with financial support but do give pupils access to academic extension and scholar events.
If you’re interested in applying for a bursary or scholarship at St Peter’s, the process is straightforward.
Bursary applications are typically processed in parallel with the school’s admissions process, and any supporting financial documentation will be kept strictly confidential. You’ll need to submit a formal application to the school, selecting that you are applying for a Help with Fees place (which will make sure you are not charged the application fee), and you will then be contacted with the next steps for the Bursary application process. All forms need to be received by 1st December the year before your intended September start.
