Ashville College will be hosting a three-day Easter sports camp open to boys and girls from across the Harrogate District.
Aimed at children in Years 5 to 8 from any school, the camp takes place from Tuesday, 6 April , until Thursday, 8 April , and will see the young attendees taking part in a variety of games and activities to introduce and develop fundamental skills in rugby and hockey, alongside an introduction to strength and conditioning principles.
The event is being delivered by experienced members of the College’s PE department including Gary Mercer, Laura Thompson and Jamie Joyce.
Gary, the College’s Head of Rugby, is a former New Zealand international who spent most of his career in Britain both playing and coaching. Clubs he has played for include Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers, and later he was a defence coach for Glasgow Warriors.
Laura is Head of Hockey at Ashville College, and has represented the North of England and played at National League level. She also has coaching experience within the England Hockey Player Pathway, and has assessed players at Performance Centre level for their progression throughout.
Jamie is a strength and conditioning coach at Ashville, and previously worked with academy athletes at the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) and the Dublin GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association).
Gary Mercer said: “Our Easter sports camp will give boys and girls an opportunity to learn and develop skills in hockey and rugby, whilst taking part in different games and fun activities.
“We are fortunate to have excellent sports facilities available for the camp to take place on the Ashville campus, with a large number of sports pitches that will be suitable whatever the weather.
“Laura, Jamie and I are really looking forward to hosting this event, and in particular welcoming youngsters from various schools to join us for plenty of exercise and have fun through the medium of sport.”
The cost per day is £35, or £100 for all three and includes lunch, and places can be booked here, via Eventbrite. There is a ten per cent discount for siblings, and this can be accessed using the promotion code, sibling.
