A toy catalogue recently came in the post, and the weather has all of a sudden shifted into autumn, so of course she began thinking about wish lists. This led Emma to come to a conclusion of her own and she decided that she would take a stand to help the oceans. Emma has written a letter to Santa. It is a pledge of sorts asking Santa and her family to stop giving her toys made of plastic.
The change starts with her. She understands that change is scary and that many of her friends will be hesitant. So she has tonight written a list in the backseat of the car, on the way to swimming lessons. She is holding herself accountable and taking responsibility for the problem and now she is offering solutions.
Please read her letter, sign the pledge to stop plastic toys being given for Christmas and share the pledge with others. The change starts now.
Dear Santa, Parents, Family and Friends,
My name is Emma Klauser and I am a seven year old living in the UK. We have learned a lot about the environment at school. I have seen depressing pictures of what our plastics are doing to our oceans. I am not happy and I don’t think that grown ups are doing enough to help. At our house, we are making changes like using bamboo tooth brushes, shampoo bars and having milk delivered in glass bottles. But I think that together we can do more.
Christmas is coming up. Like most kids, I have started to think about my wish list. This year I am asking all of you to stop gifting toys made of plastic. I am also asking all of my friends to make the same request. One of my favourite places in the world is standing on the beach looking out into the horizon. It makes me feel alive and connected to the Earth. I want it to stay like that. So please make better choices.
If you are like me, then please sign this pledge saying No to plastic toys at Christmas. If you are a company that makes toys made of plastic then start making them better. We love Lego, Nintendo, LOL, Nerf guns and all the other toys but we love our planet and oceans more.
– Love Emma
