A Fantastic Interactive Detextive Adventure in Harrogate’s Valley Gardens Suitable for All!
A brand new activity is coming to Harrogate. Dusty and Stink Detextive Adventures, the treasure hunt with a difference where you interact with characters via Text to solve all the clues.
Our adventures are super flexible meaning you can start any day, any time. Take your time or set up a timed challenge with rival groups. Texting the correct answer to receive the next clue adds spontaneity and anticipation to every experience.
Your adventure starts off with message from Dusty himself. He has found the treasure, but the evil Stink is out to stop him and get there first. Can you help Dusty?
The clues will take you around the gardens, revealing secrets you may never have come across before. You’ll see the gardens in a whole new light.
Suitable for all ages with two levels to choose from and are perfect for family fun, birthdays or meeting up with friends.
Younger children will enjoy our Junior Detextives Adventure whilst older children, teenagers and adults will all enjoy becoming a Super Sleuth.
Once you have made your purchase you will receive a download with your secret code to begin, as well as plenty of instructions and a map.
Everyone who takes part also receives a downloadable certificate and if you solve all the clues, you will be entered into the monthly prize draw to win a Harrogate Hamper.
Dusty and Stink Detextive Adventures was a concept I came up with last year after so many were unable to celebrate birthdays or meet up with friends as they were used to. I’ve always enjoyed designing adventures and treasure hunts and, as the owner of a successful party and music business as well as a regular actor in murder mysteries around the country and parent of two, I know how to make an event enjoyable and memorable.
Of course the challenges we have faced over the last year have meant that we’ve not been able to travel far, and even the most loved of places can become overly familiar.
There are plenty of wonderful treasure trails and adventure walks around the country, so I wanted to create something different and came up with the Detextive concept.
This makes the adventure spontaneous and adds even more mystery and another level of excitement. Until you have sent the correct answer to the character, you don’t get your next clue. This added incentive and anticipation of receiving the next clue is what makes these adventures unique. Kids and adults get a real kick out of seeing that next clue appear once they’ve solved the last one.
It also means no cheating! So you can set up a timed challenge with other groups. Start off at different intervals or even on different days and see who can solve all the clues the quickest. If there’s any doubt Detextive Dusty keeps a record of everyone’s times!
If you do get stuck, you can check out picture clues or even request hints by text if you really can’t work it out.
All routes are pushchair, wheelchair and dog friendly, and you can take as much time as you want and stop for an ice cream, coffee or a play (unless you are competing with another group).
Although we hope to be able to offer an actual physical prize at the end of each adventure in the future, it’s simply not practical until hospitality can reopen, but parents are welcome to bring along a little something as a reward at the end and print out the certificate ready. You can even personalise them.
Junior Detective Adventures are aimed at kids up to age 10. All the clues are visual (for example work out that the location of the answer is the gate and text how many roses you can see).
Super Sleuth Adventures are trickier and clues may require Detextives to locate a historical sign and answer using a particular word from it. Older kids, teenagers and adults will all enjoy this one.
This is a fantastic activity to do as a family or, from 29th March with up to 5 others or another household. As outdoor rules relax it’s a great way to celebrate by doing something a bit different.
