1. No end to the Autumn term is complete without the Nativity!
The children loved getting dressed up in their costumes and wearing face paints to get into character for this year’s Nativity, ‘A Bundle of Joy’. It was lovely to see all the boys and girls singing their hearts out to their friends and families.
2. We welcomed a prickly friend
Reception children were delighted to meet two-year-old hedgehog Rhubarb, thanks to a visit from Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue. With hedgehogs declining rapidly in Britain, it was wonderful to hear that this charity has helped over a thousand hedgehogs recover from sickness or injury and released many back into the wild. This photo even made it into the Yorkshire Post!
3. Recognising achievement from a young age
Every week we hold Celebration Assemblies to recognise achievement, effort and acts of kindness, and this continues from Reception up into Prep School. The look on the children’s faces when they receive a certificate is priceless; we can tell it means so much to them!
4. Hot chocolates with the Head
Reception children earn stamps for effort and good behaviour, and when they collect ten stamps, they have the opportunity to enjoy a hot chocolate and a chat with the Head of Acorns Early Years, Mrs Charlotte Cryer. She said: “Our Reception children have been so busy I have held two hot chocolate sessions this week! Well done to all the Reception children for their hard work.”
5. Keeping learning fun (and festive!)
As children progress through Reception, we ignite their inquisitive spirit in lots of different ways. In Maths, for example, we have been searching for Christmas Ted in the classroom. We have been using positional language to describe where he is hiding. We have been using instructions to move Christmas Ted around the classroom and playing ‘Elf Says’.
We hope you have enjoyed this festive peak into our Reception cohort’s world! If you have applied or are about to apply to primary schools ahead of the 15 January deadline, we invite you to also consider the alternative of an independent education for your child. See us in action, and meet Mrs Cryer and our highly experienced Reception Class Teachers, with no obligation, so you have all the information at your disposal. Our next Open Doors events will take place on Wednesday 7 February and Wednesday 17 April 2024.
