We’ve put our heads together to share five special things about Ashville, our lovely co-educational independent school and community on Green Lane. There’s a lot more to us of course, but we feel this is a good place to start!
Ashville Early Years is an enchanting and nurturing world where children aged from 2 to 5 take their first steps into school life, and we care for them as we would our own! Beginning in Little Acorns and going up to Reception, pupils learn within a dedicated facility generously staffed by experienced early years practitioners and teachers, ensuring plenty of one-to-one time with each child.
We believe that engaging with nature not only enhances academic achievement but also promotes physical and mental wellbeing. We are fortunate to have plenty of green space at Ashville, which includes an Outdoor Learning area. All Prep School year groups receive weekly Outdoor Learning lessons and outdoor learning is also being incorporated into the curriculum for Senior School year groups.
Ironic we know, given it’s GCSE and A Level season, and we wish all our Year 11s and Upper Sixth well in their remaining exams. Helping our pupils to gain the best examination results they can achieve forms an important part of the rounded, holistic education we provide at Ashville. We value highly, as does the wider world, the qualities that pupils develop in their participation in sport, music, drama, outdoor education, debating, enterprise activities, service to others, residential visits and in a wide range of clubs and societies.
Our excellent Sports Centre is a short walk away from most parts of the campus, and we have an impressive team of highly skilled PE and sports staff with a variety of educational and professional sporting backgrounds. The Sports Centre features a 30-metre swimming pool (every child in Reception receives weekly swimming lessons), a gym, indoor sports halls, and a range of outdoor sports areas, including AstroTurf pitch.
It matters to us that our pupils leave us genuinely ready for their futures. This means skills as well as grades. Our Future Ready programme is embedded into everything we do in the Sixth Form and is a key part of life in the Senior School now, too. For Sixth Formers, Future Ready is part of their academic and pastoral ‘diet’, helping them to develop skills such as creativity, problem-solving, resilience, and teamwork. After all, we as adults know that’s what they’re going to need in the future, to be successful and to thrive. For example, we’ve just delivered our first six-week Moving On course for Upper Sixth, which offers practical guidance to prepare them for leaving home to start university or work, with topics ranging from understanding personal finance to looking after your mental health.
As well as being accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), we have dedicated staff who support American families and pupils with their studies. Our Director of US Studies has lived and worked in Chicago and his extensive experience of marrying the UK and US education systems together means any pupils interested in studying at American universities receive tailored support to craft the best possible college applications.
If something here has caught your eye and you would like to know more, be sure to ask us about it. We can create a personalised visit geared to your child’s key interests and the areas you would most like to see. We have limited places remaining this September, so don’t miss out!
