Guest blog by Harrogate Boot Exchange
My name is Caroline and I am a parent to two school aged children who have worked their way through various sports clubs and school uniform kit lists. Over the years, as my children grew, I found that I was constantly forking out money on replacement football boots/astro-turf trainers – often before the outgrown pair had worn out. Frustrating and expensive!!
It dawned on me that there must be another way – to give life back to those boots laying forgotten in people’s lofts and garages – and to ease the strain on parents’ pockets while they shopped for the next size up. With thousands of children in Harrogate surely there are already enough boots to do the rounds? And so the idea of Harrogate Boot Exchange was born. Donate your outgrown boots (clean and in a good condition, please – the type of boots you would expect to get for your own children) and receive a Harrogate Boot Exchange Voucher for £5. Use this voucher and cash – or multiple vouchers – or all cash – to buy your next pair of second hand boots. Keep trading up each time your child outgrows their pair of boots …with enough stock we could potentially supply them right through their school years! Come and try the boots on – run around and give a ball a kick – check they feel okay before you buy – something you can’t do if you buy second hand online.
Think of the money you would save – and think of the people you could help – 80% of money raised will be shared between Martin House Children’s Hospice and Harrogate Homeless Project.
This is a new initiative and so I need stock – without stock this idea will not get off the ground – my children’s outgrown boots will not supply the whole of Harrogate!! If anyone has boots they can donate I will issue vouchers valid for 6 months. If I don’t yet have suitable boots I can email you when they arrive. Whilst I can’t guarantee 100% that I will get your ideal boots in stock, the more donations I receive, the likelier that will be.
Pricing will be as follows – Children boots though to adult size 5.5 are £10 cash or any combination of cash and vouchers; boots from adult size 6 and up cost slightly more at £15 – again you can buy cash or with vouchers.
So please check your lofts and garages – lets work together to help ease parents’ pockets whilst helping two amazing local charities.
