Harrogate’s 50th Anniversary Charity Stray Bonfire 2020 is now postponed until 2021 due to Coronavirus.
Harrogate’s 50th Anniversary Charity Stray Bonfire 2020 is now postponed until 2021 due to Coronavirus restrictions. The organisers of the Harrogate Charity Stray Bonfire have announced today, 12th September 2020, that with huge regret, they have no choice but to postpone the 50th annual stray bonfire. The Stray Bonfire is an annual event organised entirely by volunteers from the Harrogate District Round Table.
The recent announcements from the government relating to gatherings of more than 6 people outdoors or indoors were the final “nail in the coffin” for this much-loved local community event.
The cancellation of the Stray bonfire in 2020 will not only be a huge blow for the thousands of attendees, but will also have a knock-on effect for the local scout groups who fundraise by providing refreshments, for local schools who benefit from the sale of glow items and of course for the local charities who receive thousands of pounds in cash donations from the public.
Chairman of the Harrogate District Round Table Andrew Rickard said
“We are genuinely devastated to have to postpone the 50th anniversary of the Harrogate Stray Bonfire and we have held off making this decision for as long as we possibly could, in the hope that it could go ahead. Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to postpone our 50th Stray Bonfire until 2021.
As a Round Table, we are extremely proud of our annual charity Stray bonfire, not least because it provides a free event for all local residents, but also because organisations such as the Scouts and our nominated charities rely on it to bolster their much-needed fundraising efforts.
We will be back next year (Covid restrictions permitting!) with a bigger & better event for our local residents to celebrate the 50th year of the Stray bonfire”
The Harrogate Round Table continue to fundraise throughout the year & support the community however they can. Most recently, in partnership with local registered charity Supporting Older People , the volunteers from Harrogate Round Table managed to purchase, pack & deliver over 200 food packages to vulnerable local people.
Local charities, supported by Harrogate District Round Table are feeling the effect of Coronavirus, with so many fundraising events being cancelled or postponed. If you would normally attend and feel like you can afford to make a donation in lieu of the event, then the Harrogate & District Round Table have set up a Harrogate Bonfire Fundraiser on Crowdfunder. 100% of all donations will be given the organisations who usually benefit from the annual bonfire. Please donate if you can.
