On a sunny Saturday some of the Mumbler team headed to Le Bistrot Pierre to see how it shapes up for family friendly dining.
I have to admit it’s not somewhere which immediately comes to mind for eating out with my 20 month old son, however I have been a few times in the evening with friends and it has always been excellent, so I was looking forward to seeing what it would be like for lunch with the family.
After getting up the steps with the pushchair we were warmly welcomed by one of the waiters who held the door open for us. The atmosphere was lovely and welcoming and we felt instantly relaxed.
As it was such a beautiful day, we chose to sit somewhere by the doors to the outside space which were open to let the sun stream in.
We were asked if we wanted drinks straight away and we got a highchair brought over for our little one. With the drinks, the waiter brought over a fab activity pack for my son, which included lots of pages of things to do along with some colouring pencils. It even had a Ou est Pierre, the French equivalent of Where’s Wally which was great for Finlay as he loves to search for things. It definitely helped to keep a fidgety toddler amused for a while!
The kids menu was on the front and back of the booklet and offered a good choice of options, at a great price – £6.50 for two courses and a drink.
We chose Roast Chicken for Finlay, and I opted for the Beef Bourgignon, with my husband opting for Mushrooms on Brioche to start, and a chicken burger for main. For dessert, Finlay had a raspberry meringue and ice cream dish, and we chose Crème Brulee and Frangipane, all of which were lovely!
Whilst we waited for the starter, my husband took Finlay outside to the balcony and he enjoyed watching the cars go past and pointing things out. The outdoor area is lovely and secluded and very child safe, being enclosed all the way around.
Our starter arrived and Finlay’s main came at the same time so he didn’t have to wait long. The chicken was lovely and moist, and came with chips, cucumber and tomatoes. He also really enjoyed some of my beef bourgignon.
Our meals were up to the usual excellent standard we enjoy at Le Bistrot Pierre. We have been a few times and always think it is one of the best restaurants in the town!
The service was very good, despite it getting busy and when Finlay got bored and wanted to wander around, the waiters didn’t mind him going outside a few times and watching the world go by!
All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal for all of us, so we will definitely be back soon!
