We love nothing more than a little Girl Power here at Harrogate Mumbler, and of course you know we love to champion our local talent! So whilst we are in the middle of our second lockdown (I’m crossing my fingers this will be our last) we thought it would be a good time to share the love and let you know about a few local Mums, who pretty much bossed lockdown one and create some rather wonderful local businesses!
Long time friends of Harrogate Mumbler and local mums Sarah and Liz spent their first lockdown working away on their new joint venture which launched earlier this month!
The Harrogate Hamper features lots of lovely products – all made here! They have eleven hampers you can choose from or they can build something bespoke for you. It’s free delivery within five miles of HG2 and they can also arrange for hampers to be delivered to addresses within the UK – please get in touch with them for costs.
I think it’s a brilliant idea, and if my family can’t come to Harrogate this Christmas, then I’ll be sending a little bit of Harrogate to them! Also thinking isn’t this a perfect gift for someone you know whose self isolating (especially those home schooling again!).
Mumbler tried them out earlier this year – you can read our full review here.
What we love about Dipidi Do Dye is the fact its a great activity for all the family! My friend has teenage step-children, as well as a toddler and she finds it really difficult to do things everyone will enjoy – and Dipidi Do Dye managed to keep them all entertained! A big hit and now we’re in lockdown again, its a great way to spend those long weekends at home! They also make fab Christmas presents – check out their special Christmas Special DIY kits!
I absolutely adore Mabie Makes! Everything, including the packaging is right up my street! Local Mum Anna, launched Mabie Makes earlier this year. Through the first lockdown, like many parents Anna had to juggle a full time job as well as looking after her daughter Mabie. Anna has always loved making and creating things for herself and home. Upcycling what she can and enjoying seeing the things we make evolve and develop into a finished cherished possession.
She used this love of all things crafting to keep her little girl Mabie amused over lockdown. Her crafting ideas proved so popular, she was soon making little kits for the rest of the children on her street! Fast forward a few months and Mabie Makes was created, producing beautiful curated craft hampers and kits for little ones, designed to allow you create freely with sustainable items that can be reused and enjoyed in different ways!
Each hamper and kit has a story. They don’t have any single use plastics in their hampers or packaging. Everything contained has been sourced with sustainability in mind. Everything can be recycled or up cycled for other projects. Even the hamper basket flips up to make a great toy box or plant holder!
I have the On The Go Activity Kit which is just brilliant! Its kept my daughter and her friends amused in many a restaurant (back when they were open!), and she loves just sitting at home doing some of the activities – it’s lovely to watch her little imagination unfold!
I’ve already got these eyed up for a few Christmas presents this year! We have an exclusive discount code too! Get 10% off your any order over £30 with code MUMBL10.
Talk about turning a negative into a positive! Jade spent a lot of the last lockdown preparing for the launch of her new company The Yorkshire Nit Nurse.
“The Yorkshire Nit Nurse came to life after desperately searching for this person that didn’t exist when my pre schooler lovingly shared with me his really heavy head lice infestation. It was impossible to treat my own thick hair. It made me so emotional as I was investing so much time and money into it (I’ve spent hundreds) yet getting no where and losing tonnes of hair in the process of failed treatment and combing attempts (by my not so skilled in nit removal, husband). I saw a gap in the North for a service that existed in London already and trained and sourced all the clever pieces of kit that give me the ability to offer a 100% guarantee of removal. I have two services, one where I come to you and do it all for you, the other where I send you a home kit and you have me available for telephone advice when you need it.
With head lice evolving over the years to beat the products, they have become resistant to many of the pharmacy treatments. So it’s an expensive trial and error process and they can also contain many ingredients which aren’t kind to scalps. My whole removal process is chemical free and natural yet 100% effective and the best part, from the comfort of your own home with a 100% guarantee of getting rid of the very annoying uninvited guests. “
Although it makes me itch so much every time I hear about this – I think it’s a brilliant idea. We’ve already had a visit from these uninvited guests earlier this year and it was a nightmare! If it happens again, which I’m sure it will – I’ll have The Yorkshire Nit Nurse on speed dial!
The Yorkshire Nit Nurse is able to work through this lockdown, so if they do pay you a visit there is no need to worry, and if you’re self isolating – or not local – she even does DIY kits!
Good luck Jade with your new venture – I have every faith in this being a huge success! It run’s in the family you know – her husband made a successful bid on BBC’s Dragon’s Den with his company tea plus drinks!
Rachel, a local mum of two has always been a keen photographer, but until recently it was just a hobby! She was made redundant from her job just after lockdown and decided now was the time to follow her dreams and set up her own photography business! Focusing on family shoots, Rachel is able to do the unimaginable – not only can she get your child to look at the camera she can actually get them to smile AT THE SAME TIME! Something I’ve been trying, and failing to do for years.
With no big parties any time soon, and lots of children not seeing their extended family much this year, photographs have become even more important to capture those special moments. The studios are currently shut for this lockdown – but fear not, because now is a perfect time to get your Christmas Doorstep Project booked in – all socially distanced and COVID secure! We had ours done last week and it was brilliant! And it now means I don’t have to think of what to get the Grandparents this year – they’ll all be getting some of these wonderful prints! They make great Christmas cards too. Rachel is donating a percentage of her fee to Leeds Cares, the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
If you do have a child’s birthday coming up – the Cake Smash photo shoots look brilliant! Which brings me nicely on to my last local mumpreneur…
Sophie is the queen of all things creative! I follow her on Instagram and just loved her posts. So I’m not at all surprised she’s launched this brilliant business – I’ve spent too much time on her grid today – everything looks so pretty! BK (before kids!) Sophie worked for Hallmarks and admits she is a bit obsessed with occasions – seriously this woman goes ALL out, from getting her brother to dress up as an Elf for Christmas to making the most unreal birthday cakes for her kids! So it’s no surprise she’s set up Sophie Styled It – a balloon installation company!
Balloon installations have become really popular recently, and as parties are off the table for the foreseeable future, these are a great way of making that lockdown birthday extra special! Click and collect and local delivery is available through lockdown!
It’s great to see so many local Mum’s turning their dreams into reality, especially given the year we’ve had! If you can, please support them – even if it’s just a like on their social pages, it means so much!
