29th Harrogate Brownies desperately need your help!
29th Harrogate Brownies, who meet on Mondays, will loose their leader from July, and they desperately need volunteers to step forward to lead & run the unit. You might be interested or might know someone who is?
Closing a unit has huge implications for all the local girls in guiding. The leaders have just had to write to all 7 year old Rainbow’s parents to say their daughter can’t move up to Brownies, which we know will cause upset and disappointment. They will have to leave Rainbows due the huge list of girls we have waiting to join and will not have the opportunity to continue on their guiding journey, unless we can save the Brownie unit.
Jean Tennant from 28th Harrogate Guides says;
“Being a leader is fun and rewarding, I say that with confidence as I’m now in my 26th year of enjoying the role.
Please do consider this opportunity to give something back to girls and young women in our community, and please also do circulate the plea to others who might be interested.”

Community Fit is a local activity group based in Harrogate, they meet as a group on a Wednesday 5.45pm until 8pm.
Our aim is to create a community of local people who meet to be social and active while giving an hour or so of their time each week to help other people.
We connect activity and community through regular group sessions during which people will run, walk or cycle together from our base to a community group or charity where we help out before heading back to base.
Helping out can be anything from sorting donations to moving furniture, painting, tree planting, or litter picking.
A typical session would be:
You do not have to be a brilliant athlete to come along to a session. Many members power walk instead of running and we never leave anyone behind. Faster runners circle round and do relays so that we stay as a group.
You do not have to commit to every session. You book on as and when it works for you.
Chief Mumbler Sally joined the group in September 2023 and since then has helped out at a lot of local charities & organisations including:
Harrogate Homeless Project (Wesley Church town centre): Gardening * 2
Artizan Cafe (town centre): Helped decorate for Christmas
Harrogate BID (town centre): Litter pick
St Marks Church Leeds Road: Gardening
Richard Taylor School: Clearing poly tunnel & gardening
Harrogate Council: Delivering leaflets to combat loneliness

Harrogate Fair Trade Shop is right in the heart of Harrogate and has been trading for over 30 years. The shop is in the former porch of St Peter’s Church and is staffed by a team of volunteers. Despite our small premises we make the most of the space we have, selling an incredible range of products from around the world, including toys, accessories and food.
This helps people feed their families, send their children to school and pay for medical bills, giving them security for the future
We believe in putting people before profit, helping to restore dignity and hope to some of the most disadvantaged people in the world.
Would you like to help us in our quest?
Join our volunteer team in the shop, serving and assisting customers, answering queries, and keeping the shop looking its best. You don’t need experience in retail, just an eagerness to learn about the things we sell and the stories behind them. We also have a storeroom in Community House where products are unpacked and priced so there opportunities to help here too.
This is a great time of year to join us as we open our Christmas shop as it is always a busy time.
