Our first trip to Harrogate Theatre as a family was back in 2019 to see Ben and Holly. My little girl was only two at the time but she still talks about it now. There is something about children’s theatre that is so magical – it really captures children’s imagination and keeps them engaged for the entire performance. With most children’s performances usually lasting around an hour, without an interval – you don’t have to worry about your kids getting bored. At the same time, if your child does get a little agitated, it’s no big deal – everyone knows the score when it comes to going to the theatre with children and everyone at Harrogate Theatre is super accommodating!
After a couple of years of no theatre (thanks covid!), we’ve been back to Harrogate Theatre with a vengeance! Firstly, back in December 2021 for their eagerly awaited pantomime Cinderella, to more recently Oh no, George! at Easter and Zog and the Flying Doctors last weekend. We’ve loved every performance we’ve seen – and so has everyone else in the audience!
I have to say, it’s not just my 5 year old that loves going – everything I have seen so far I’ve been blown away by! It’s been lovely to see some of our favourite books, which we’ve been reading together every bed time brought to life.
Oh no, George! was a book given to my daughter when she was born, and Chris Haughton has fast become a popular author in our house! We’d just got a new puppy when we went to see this – which made it even more hilarious! It’s amazing how the production company bring a short story to life – using acrobatics, slapstick comedy, Sign Supported English and live music!
Zog and the Flying Doctors we had to go to! For this year’s World Book Day my daughter went as Sir Gaddabout! Freckle Productions did a brilliant job! We absolutely loved it – and were singing the songs all the way home!
If you are considering a family trip to the theatre,The Tiger That Came to Tea will be showing Monday 30th May – Wed 1st June and then The Queen’s Knickers on Sunday 10th July.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful theatre on our doorstep that really invests in their younger audience!
