Rachel Glendinning has recently relocated to Harrogate with her lovely little boy and her holistic back pain and stress solutions business. She invited Mumbler along for taster session at her new premises – The Serenity Centre.
Rachel uses The Grinberg Method to address issues with back pain and stress. The Grinberg Method is described as a structured way of teaching through the body. It focuses on body attention, perception and the individual’s direct personal experience. The goal is for people to learn to be attentive to themselves and their surroundings and stop automatic limiting habits in order to increase their ability to recuperate, attain personal goals and well-being. The method was developed in the early 1980s by Avi Grinberg.
The Serenity Centre is located on the gorgeous Montpellier Street, and as the name suggests the rooms are really relaxing. Rachel starts the taster session – which lasts for an hour, by explaining a little about The Grinberg Method then taking a look at your feet! I felt like I was having a lovely foot rub – but this foot analysis is a tool Rachel uses to assess and define the aim of the process and adapt it specifically for me. She asked me a few questions about my pasts then somehow – from my answers and some magic foot analysis she was able to analysis my personality traits pretty well!
She was then able to explain how my past experiences and how I deal with things could be having an affect on my body. The idea of the taster session is to then do some touch exercises where she could address some of my aches and pains. For example – I’ve always known I’m a bit of a control freak, but she was able to show me how this created unnecessary tension in my shoulders and lower back.
For the most part of the session again I felt like I was having a lovely, relaxing massage. Rachel is really good a putting you at ease from the get go. But this is so much more that a massage, Rachel was actually teaching me these exercises so I could do them myself. The session finished with some amazing leg exercises – everything she does she explains and talks you through it so you can really understand why she’s doing it and what it could possibly be related to.
I left the session feeling really relaxed but also as if I’d done a really good work out – I guess she must have got those endorphins pumping! The walk home up the hill on Cold Bath Road didn’t even seem to bother me!
The next day I received and email from Rachel giving a brief summary of our session and how she thought she could help me going forward. I thought it was a lovely session – I really liked how the session was adapted to my personal requirements. If you are suffering from back pain or stress and looking for a holistic solution I would definitely recommend Rachel’s services. She certainly made me feel so much better in my own body – and I think part of that has to be the in-depth explanations she can give you as to why your body behaves in certain ways, and how we can correct that.
She is offering these taster sessions for £39 until the end of December as well as free 20-minute office wellbeing neck and shoulder sessions for employees. For more information visit www.rachelglendinning.com
