Our guest reviewer Charlotte and her Mini Mumbler recently went along to try the brand new Tiny Globetrotters class, found out what they thought here…
“As a brand new concept, aimed at bringing big adventures to little ones here in North Leeds, Mini-Mumbler and I were keen to see what Tiny Globetrotters had to offer. We arrived early to the Thursday class at Adel and were warmly welcomed by Kyle and his daughter Isabella.
The theme of the week was Kenya, and we were quickly transported to the African plains, with the help of our very own passenger jet, packed with light and sound and rotating propellers! Upon arrival in the free play area, Emily and I explored all the different areas incorporating the Kenyan theme; there were safari animals wading in sand, a large tray of maize and mills referencing a popular food called Ugali, animal inspired puzzles and stories, and an array of paints to decorate a traditional maasai necklace and create animal footprints. The maize mills were a particular favourite, sifting the corn through the funnels and sprinkling everywhere!
The second half of the session involved everybody gathering on the mats to meet Olive Oink, the Tiny Globetrotters’ piggy mascot who helps lead the way to new and exciting experiences. With a big hug from Emily, we were set to meet more animals from the African plains, and heard what they sounded like. From smaller giraffe and lion hand puppets, to the giant fluffy stringed Flamingo – who was a massive hit!
We then learnt a traditional Kenyan song called “Ukuti”; similar to “Ring a ring a roses”. The song is traditionally sung in a ring, so we walked round in a circle, waving the parachute up-and-down, and side-to-side, singing to the music:
The leaf, the leaf
Of the coconut tree, of the coconut tree
When the wind blows against it
It shakes… It shakes… It shakes…
The background music we were listening to during free play became the base for creating our own beat, and Emily was in her element banging on drums and shaking tambourines, taking turns to make different sounds. And the whole session was rounded off with the always-popular bubbles! As well as a Tiny Globetrotters sticker to mark the journey!
Kyle has experience as a teacher, is widely travelled and is a dad to a toddler! He is passionate about this new venture which comes across in his classes. If you want a class that expands vocabulary, imagination and understanding of different cultures around the world, Tiny Globetrotters is the class for you!
