Mumbler’s ‘Mum Tum’ gets Blasted with Non-Invasive Lipo by Body Sculpture Harrogate
I’m pretty lucky at Harrogate Mumbler as quite a lot of lovely people offer me quite a lot of lovely things if I come and review them for this website. Usually, it’s a family meal out or an activity for the kiddies, however this time it was purely something for me.
It was my friend Kathryn who made the suggestion; she is the owner of Body Sculpture Harrogate and she had been asking me for ages to come down and try her Promax Lipo machine; it’s also sometimes known as “non-invasive Liposuction”. I’d said that I’d give it a go at some point, however if I’m honest, I thought I’d put her off as I am not the sort of person who’d usually bother with this sort of thing and it all sounded like a massive faff. I’ve got 2 kids, I work full time and quite frankly, finding time for courses of ‘beauty’ treatments just isn’t usually a possibility for me.
Even more important to me was that I just don’t believe in this stuff. You lie there and get thin? Hmmmm. It sounded too good to be true and I’m not exactly a gym bunny or a supermodel! Let’s be kind and call me “curvy.” Let’s be honest and say I’m a big chick.
The thing is, I’m totally cool with being a big chick and I really didn’t have a burning desire to change myself. I’m a massive advocate of being strong and healthy, being body confident and projecting this onto my daughters. Having said all of that, I’m getting older, the mum tum shows all the signs of having stretched and carried two human beings, and the weight just keeps creeping on. My clothes were getting tighter and Kathryn mentioned her machine again. “Just try it, she said… You don’t have to do a full course….” and so I booked in.
However comfortable you feel in your own skin, embarking on a treatment like this can be a bit daunting. You’re basically going to get your flabby bits out in front of a stranger. She is going to measure you and see it all. Cringe. Fortunately Kathryn is a total professional, she isn’t a teeny tiny teenage beauty therapist, she’s a mum, she’s a real woman. She knows our body issues and makes you feel totally comfortable and relaxed. Her treatment rooms are discrete and comfortable and her easy manner immediately puts you at ease.
Prior to the first treatment I had a consultation to discuss the areas I wanted to treat and she talked me through the whole process, what to expect, and how it all works (see below for the science bit!). Then of course I had my ‘before’ photos taken. Kathryn explained to me that in order to see the very best results I should look at the cavitation treatment holistically in conjunction with a bit of a lifestyle overhaul. You know the usual; healthy eating, upping my fitness, drinking more water.
I did find the whole conversation really useful, however the devil in me made me ignore her. I wanted to see exactly what the treatment could do by itself. I deliberately didn’t do anything different in terms of food, drinking (booze I mean!) or exercise. The only thing that I did do was drink much more water. I didn’t do it deliberately but I just found that I was way more thirsty while I was under going the 4 week course and so easily increased my daily water intake.
The treatment on my stomach took about an hour each time. The first part is the Ultrasonic Cavitation which is quite similar to a pregnancy ultrasound (with the cold jelly and everything). The only difference is that 1) you’re not looking at a screen (obvs) and 2) it must be a stronger frequency (or however ultrasounds are measured) as you can hear an odd “chirping” sound in your ears. It’s a bit weird at first and I found it surreal that I could ‘hear’ a noise inside my head, however you soon stop being aware of it and by the third session I had stopped noticing it.
After the cavitation it’s on to the skin tightening which is a heat/ suction type device that stimulates your skin and encourages your body to produce collagen. This feels warm and ‘sucky’ but it’s not unpleasant at all.
So, did it work? Well, I’m officially a convert! Kathryn measured me in 3 places across my stomach; one below my ribs, one on my natural waist and one across my lower stomach. I’m writing this after my seventh treatment and over those three measurements I’ve lost an amazing 20cm. That is a smidge under 8″! I’ve moved down 2 notches on my belt buckle and I’ve lost count of the comments that I’ve had from friends about how “trim” I look.
These are my side-on before and after pictures (I’m still a bit pink in the right one as this was taken straight after my treatment. This usually subsides within about 10 minutes).
So who else would benefit from Body Sculpture Harrogate?
I’ve spent 7 hours with Kathryn over the past few weeks and so naturally we’ve had plenty of time to chat about who this works for. She tells me that a whole variety of people get fantastic results from this non-invasive liposuction. There are those who are like me, who are generally curvier and need a bit of help in a particular area.
It might be that you want a ‘blast’ to get into that little black dress before Christmas or before a holiday, a wedding or something like that. Whilst it is recommended that you do a full course, you can do a single treatment or a short course and still achieve instant and impressive results.
Other people who can really benefit from Ultrasonic Cavitation are those who perhaps go to the gym, are slim and toned but have a stubborn area that they can’t shift. It’s also great for those who need skin tightening (e.g. for wrinkles) or cellulite reduction.
So how does it work?
I can’t pretend to know the answers myself so here is an extract from the Lynton website (who make the Promax Lipo machine):
Sound waves penetrate deep into the fat layer causing vibrations and the formation of microbubbles within the interstitial fluid. As these bubbles collapse the resulting shock wave leads to a temporary change in the fat cell membrane allowing lipids to escape the cell and be ejected by the body. Perfect for stubborn areas of fat that prove unresponsive to exercise, such as abdomen, upper arms and outer thighs.
Multi-polar Radio Frequency & Vacuum
Using controlled waves of energy to heat the fat cells, increase circulation, reduce the appearance of cellulite and increase fat cell metabolism. The thermal energy also results in instant collagen contraction and creates long term improvement to collagen fibres for firmer, tighter skin. Vacuum massage technology provides powerful lymphatic drainage to process the lipids released during cavitation and remove toxins to improve the appearance of cellulite”
Would I recommend it? Without a doubt. You can see my before and after photos below (after 7 treatments) which show my own results. I’m absolutely delighted with my inch loss and I’ve even decided to have another go in another area before the Mumbler Awards!
If any you Mumblers are considering booking a treatment before Christmas, Kathryn has kindly agreed to put on a special offer to celebrate my 20cm loss and is offering Mumblers 20% off if they book in with her before Christmas and mention “Mumbler” (T & C’s apply) . All treatments are subject to a free consultation as the treatment isn’t for everyone (e.g. don’t go if you’re pregnant!)
Disclaimer. Kathryn gave me the sessions for free however it was with the understanding that I was going to write honestly whatever happened and I wouldn’t be making up any results (or editing photo’s!)
Apologies to anyone who is shocked by the belly pics. #sorrynotsorry. I’ve had two kids… s**t happens… 😉
