When Kate reached out to us here at Mumbler I practically bit her arm off when she offered us a gifted session. I like to think I’m pretty good at the whole Marie Kondo method – I feel like I’m forever off to the skip or sending things to charity. But I’ve recently had a new kitchen – it’s now open plan so everything is on show. Coupled with the fact I’ve lost a few cupboards I thought I could really benefit from using Kate’s services.
Kate came over for an initial consultation for 60 minutes – she’ll visit the client’s home to meet them, look at the space and find out what they are looking to achieve before the main session. She’ll then arrange follow up sessions – a kitchen usually takes one day – 8 hours. She recommends splitting 8 hours across two days, 4 hours per day, one at the end of a week and one near the beginning of the next. That can give clients some time mid-process, over a weekend, to sort through any items that require more time to look through or to consider options she might suggest as we go along. Two half day sessions would normally cost £160.
After the initial consultation Kate send me over my Organisation Journey document that she sends to all her clients. The document includes a summary of work to be done, estimate of time, quote and any links to items she things might be beneficial to you.
It was lovely to meet Kate. It certainly didn’t feel like I had a stranger in my house who was going to tell me off for bulk buying crisps! She was warm, kind and didn’t tell me to do anything, everything was my decision – she just offered up really brilliant suggestions. Once I’d shown her where everything was and what my issues were off she went. My main issue I thought was that I just didn’t have enough space for everything I needed. Turns out that wasn’t the case at all. I now have so much more space. I’ve sent a few things to charity and I don’t even want to admit to how many packets of out of date tea bags I’ve thrown away, but the majority of the space has come from simply re-organising things!
Everything is now in the right place – I can reach everything I need. It almost feels like I’ve not changed anything – the reason I say that is because it all feels so natural! She really thinks about where things would go to make life easier for you. My mind was blown when she suggested mugs should go in a drawer – but what a revelation! Another problem I had was that certain drawers and cupboards were filled with things I used but not all the time. I’m a baker – but only at Christmas, I’m a bit tight so keep the Halloween and Easter buckets, I love a good picnic. You get the idea – now all my seasonal stuff is placed in some lovely wicker baskets above my fridge. Easy to access when I need them, but out of the way for the 11 months I don’t need them. And of course it’s freed up so much space in my cupboards!
What I love about Kate is she’s not about spending a fortune on storage solutions. She’s a big fan of recycling what you already have – and her top tip – keep the plastic packaging your grapes come in! I told her I’d be happy to spend a little on storage. After our first session she sent over some options. I’d indicated that if I was to have storage on show I’d want it to look nice. She sent me a few options at different price points. I’d dismissed the cheaper items as I just didn’t think they looked that nice. She did all the leg work for me – sending me links for different products. I ended up with some beautiful wicker baskets which I was more than happy to spend £30 on.
It’s a long process – and as the client you are quite involved. But it’s all for your benefit. She needs to see how things work for you. There was a lot of sorting cupboards and then swapping them over. It really wasn’t till the end of the process that everything was in the right place – just looks at how beautiful everything looks:
I can honestly say this has been a game changer for us – I know where everything is, I can get to everything, it’s all in the right, logical place and I now no longer buy beans when I don’t need them! Kate is really kind and it was lovely to have her in my home. Everything she does is done with such thought. I can’t recommend her enough.
