September is a really good time to consider changing homes. The holiday season is over, kids are back at school and life is getting back to normal – so now’s the time to think of buying that bit bigger house which gives a little more breathing space.
Gardens are still looking pretty good and photograph well and the dark nights are not quite here yet so viewers still have the opportunity of seeing the house in daylight even after work.
The legal buying process can take time – generally up to 3 months – so there’s plenty of time to try and sell, find your ideal home and still be able to move in for Christmas.
Here are our top tips for preparing your home to sell:
1 Declutter – It is worth being ruthless here, remove as much stuff as you can to depersonalise your home – it needs to look as smart as possible.
2 Spruce up the décor –All those jobs you have been putting off for ages will really make a difference. Ideally re paint any scruffy areas, clean any carpets, touch up any markings and neutralise any over bold colours – you may love your scarlet sitting room but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea!
3 Mow the lawn! – try to make the garden looked as well maintained as possible.
4 Curb appeal – First impressions count – the external appearance is important to create the right impression to a buyer.
5 Put yourself in your buyer’s shoes – Would you buy your home when you look at it? Try to imagine how the buyer would want to see house when viewing.
