The school, which prides itself on building students’ self-belief, believes its small class sizes and girls-only approach make it the perfect environment for nurturing younger students. Girls aged 10-11 will be able to attend from September as day students; Queen Margaret’s already operates shuttle bus services from York City Centre and Pocklington to its school grounds in Escrick Park.
The school day for Year 6 girls will run from 08:30-15:40, after which they can stay for optional after-school clubs. There will also be wrap-around care provision, meaning Year 6 students can remain on site until 18:30 if their parents are at work.
Head of Queen Margaret’s, Nicola Dudley, said “QM is a very special place, we really are like a family here, and we have everything in place for the newest, youngest members of the QM community to feel at home in their new school when they join us in September. Our new Year 6 class will be the perfect stepping stone to our senior school.”
Year 6 students will follow a core curriculum including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Spanish, Sports, Music, Art, Drama, Dance, ICT and PSHE. They will have access to the school’s impressive facilities such as the purpose-built theatre, art studios, and sports pitches, as well as the onsite riding school. Queen Margaret’s was named Small Independent School of the Year in
the Independent School of the Year Awards 2023.
Nicola continued “When our girls leave us at the end of Sixth Form they consistently say how transformative their time at QM has been. To enable a wider age-range of girls to benefit from the unique experience of a QM education is something we’re incredibly excited about.”

● Thursday 6th February at 18:00
