School Holidays Harrogate

October Half Term

What is on for families & kids this October half term in Harrogate & Knaresborough?

We’ve got lots of ideas & suggestions for days out & things to do during October half term for all ages from toddlers to teens including plenty of low cost, indoor & rainy day ideas for the holidays.

We’ve got a dedicated Fireworks & Bonfires page here

As well as our special school holidays events don’t forget to check out our year round “Days Out” pages by clicking here

We are delighted to be working with Harrogate BID to bring you this SPOOKtacular Half Term Halloween Trail!

We have created a fun, accessible and FREE Halloween trail around the centre of Harrogate to encourage families to visit our wonderful town. There are 10 different Halloween Trail images in the windows of 10 different Harrogate town centre retailers.

When you’ve found them all, take your completed answer sheet to any of the 10 retailers and they will give you a bag of sweets as a prize!

You can download your answer sheets right here & take your own pen or pencil.  There will also be a small number of answer sheets available at each participating retailer, however due to Covid-19 precautions, we recommend taking your own.If you get stuck, we’ve created three sets of clues for you to find out where these Halloween images are!  You can choose to use the Easy, Medium or Hard set of clues.

You will then fill in the answer sheet stating which retailer’s window you spotted the Halloween image.  Once completed you can take the answer sheet to any of the 10 participating retailers in exchange for a small prize

We’d love to see how you get on so don’t forget to tag Harrogate BID and Harrogate Mumbler in your social media posts and use the hashtag #harrogatehalloweentrail.

Your adventure begins at the top of the shambles in Kings square, here you will be greeted by your magical wizard guide. Onward over the cobbled alleyways and winding streets to discover tales of historical York. Don’t fall too far behind as Spell casting needs your full attention, along the way seek out clues for the taverns location. Bring along a implement of magical spell casting, be it a wand or a spoon. Dressing up is encouraged however we will be braving the elements so dress according to the weather and bring umbrellas if required as we will be on foot for 30 to 40 minutes before we reach the school of magic.

Indulge yourself in our theatrically themed school cafe, marvel at our fabulous cast and relish an amazing afternoon tea.

“I have to say the afternoon tea (and particularly the cakes and sweet treats) were SOOO good and very generous portions – we were able to take some back with us as we couldn’t finish it all too!”

Each experience will be tailored to suit the season you choose to visit.

( Tour ,school and afternoon tea included in price )

October Half Term 2020

Things might be a little different this year but there are still lots of things to see and do at a time when the gardens are showing off the season’s best.

Keep your eyes peeled for pumpkins
As you explore on your visit look out for the pumpkin faces – over 20 are dotted around so be sure to look high, low and around the corners.

50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾
What better way to spend a day than by ticking off new exploits from our 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾ list. Become one of our explorers – climb a tree, play on the clamber stack or hunt for bugs.

See how many of the 35 + things available at Beningbrough you can achieve all year round.

Discover the wilderness
Unleash your wild ones on the seven metre pyramid tower and slide or discover the zone for smaller visitors to climb over and through or set sail on the ship or wendy house. There are swings as you might expect and the ever popular den zone. For older children the cantilever swing and clamber stick is a popular choice to test their adventurous spirit.

Ideally pre-book to guarantee your space. Walk ins are permitted if space allows.

Non Member Prices:
£10 adult, £5 for children over 5, £25 for 2 adult family and £15 for one.

Covid-19 Update:

Reopening on Monday 8 June. To help you have a safe visit, they’re asking everyone to book in advance to access the abbey and water garden. Please note, Studley Car Park will remain closed.

Take part in your biggest ever game of hide and seek on your visit to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Hide in all corners of the large abbey ruins before following the river to the water garden. Race around the moon ponds, see the swans swimming and discover the winding dark tunnel. Emerge from the tunnel to find three fun buildings called follies along this woodland path.

Be sure to have a playground adventure. There are things to wobble along, jump over and climb on…you’ll find a wooden abbey, a woodland house, scramble nets and posts, swings, fireman’s poles, a slide, a roundabout, a gigantic rope bridge and a huge zip wire for the most daring adventurers of all.

Have a well-earned sit down with a seasonal meal in the newly refurbished restaurant, tuck into tea and cake with a lakeside view at Studley tea room or a sweet treat at Mill Café.

If there’s still oodles of energy left visit the deer park. Admire the views down to Ripon Cathedral and see if you can spot the deer. There are three different types from small fallow deer to the largest of them all: red deer.

There’s lots to do but don’t worry if you can’t fit it all in this time – we’ll be here another day! Become a member on your first visit and come back for free as many times as you like. Plus, get the feel-goods about it as every time you scan your membership card, you’re contributing towards the essential conservation work we do.
