Six is now the magic number. When meeting friends and family you do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with) you must not meet in a group of more than 6, indoors or outdoors. We’ve been told these restrictions could be in place for up to 6 months (6 really is the magic number), and could become more stringent.
We’ve come up with some local family favourite ideas that you can still enjoy, just in smaller numbers! Whether your looking for family events or maybe an alternative to your child’s birthday party this year – we’ve got you covered! In keeping with the theme, we’ve come up with 6 local ideas:
We’re so pleased Clue HQ is back! Teams can be made up of 2-6 people, regardless of households or bubbles. Face coverings must be worn throughout your experience. Temperature checks will be in place on your arrival. Do not visit if you have any Covid 19 symptoms. In addition, other restrictions are displayed here.
Clue HQ is brilliant fun, and is ideal for small groups! Harrogate Mumbler went last year for our Christmas Day Out and totally smashed it! Essentially, you’re locked in a room and you have an hour to escape by solving various clues and puzzles. Its so much fun! They advise its suitable for children from around the age of 10. If you’d like to find out more about how we got on read our review here.
The Geek Bar opened earlier this year on Bower Road. The Geek Bar are dedicated to providing a safe and affordable place for people to play whilst helping bring the newest and most exciting games to our local player-base! They provide all sorts of board games – and have a brilliant family focus! They serve cocktails, mocktails and have THE most comprehensive hot dog menu! A great idea, especially on a rainy day!
We love Harry and his walking tour! A 1 hour and 20 minutes leisurely stroll through the beautiful town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire with the most knowledgeable and charismatic of all tour guides! At the moment you have to book your tour online, with a maximum of 5 people. Tours will set off at 10.30, 12.00, 13.30 and 15.00 from Wednesday – Sunday from out side Bettys.
We went on a tour last year, and loved it – you can read our review here!
We just love how Beyond Imagination have adapted their business – they certainly have lived up to their name! They are Harrogate’s first immersive Fairytale Boutique, where beloved storybook characters come to life! They offer premium quality costumed characters and a beautiful enchanting shop, so you receive nothing less than a top quality fairytale experience! They have been inspected and are considered Covid-19 Secure.
If your little mumbler is fairytale obsessed then this is a great alternative to a fairytale themed party! You can book online for their Fairytale Boutique Appointment! This gives you and your group the chance to browse their enchanting shop in private and you get a sneak peek at the Enchanted Storybook Land. Or, better still why not book their Fairytale Shopping Experience with Character Visits. Just like the Fairytale Boutique Appointment but this includes a Meet & Greet appearance from your favourite Fairytale Character as well as a gift from the Wishing Tree! Complimentary refreshments are included in your visit. For more details click here.
Did you know you they had a cinema at Stump Cross? Its brilliant, and its my top tip if you want to do something special as a family – especially if the weather isn’t great! You can hire the cinema for up to 3 hours, for just £6 per person! As per government regulations, it can be booked for up to 6 people, more if you’re all from the same household or support bubble (up to 15 people). They have hundreds of DVDs to choose from – or you can choose to bring your own. You can also order food from the cafe and have it brought to you at your seat! It really is such a fab experience that won’t break the bank. And of course, whilst you’re there you can also check out their wonderful network of caves! We went as a family a few times before lockdown and my little girl loves it here – especially checking out the little fairy trail! It’s advisable to book your visit online, for more details visit their website here.
We love it here. We went for the first time to their new location last week. It was brilliant! You sometimes worry that with all the COVID-19 restrictions that some things just won’t be as enjoyable as they were before. This is certainly not the case here. The play sessions are restricted to a certain about of guests, but they always were – which I loved! It gives everyone the space to really enjoy the experience! Theres enough space and enough things to occupy the little outlaws that you never waiting for something to be free. And as always, the place is spotless. After each play session (which are 2 hours long) they deep clean the entire play area. The only real difference is adults now have to wear a face mask in the play area. To be honest though, the amount of times I’ve worn a bandana round my face pretending to be a cowboy even that isn’t too different from before!
You get two hours in the play area, and you’re assigned a table in the cafe area too. So you can dip in and out if you want. Their menu is fab, lots of choice for adults and little ones. I worn you though, its impossible to leave without trying one of their homemade bakes! The tables in the cafe are pretty cool too – if you can, try to request the casino table to enjoy a few spins of family roulette! Just like before, you need to pre-book your spot online, which you can do here. As they aren’t doing private parties at the moment they even have weekend slots available! Ye-Ha!
