School Holidays Harrogate

February Half Term

Saturday 19 – Sunday 27 February 2022, open daily 10am – 3.30pm

Wellies – check, woolly hats – check, remember your pencil and you’re good to go. This is the final week to grab a free trail as you arrive to get closer to the trees in the garden as you wander. There’s the popular undercover discoverer trail for the youngest members of your party, and winter revealed for older children and big kids alike.

In the wilderness play area sharpen up your den building skills, test your bravery climbing on the stack and reach new heights together on the large bucket swing.

All year round the popular ’50 things to do before you’re 11 3/4’ playlist offers ideas to try something new or have a go when you’re visiting. We’ll point you in the direction with number 15 – go on a wintery adventure.

Please note the hall and gallery are currently closed for ongoing conservation work.

What’s happening this February half-term at Fountains Abbey?

Feb 19th 2022 – Feb 27th 2022

There might still be a chill in the air but nature is waking up all around us. Fountains Abbey is open 7 days a week and there’s no need to book in advance. Pull on those wellies and come and spend a full day exploring, running and playing.

Grab a ‘spring-go’ activity sheet to take with you on your adventures, spotting signs of spring as you… go! Can you find your tree twin? Or maybe you’ll be brave enough to dig through some owl pellets with our ranger? Crafty visitors of any age can join in with making a wool flower or planting a snow drop to take home.

Enjoy a walk through 900 years of history and acres of nature. Stomp through the brutal stonework of the abbey and imagine how the monks would have lived with only light shoes or bare feet! brrrrrrrr. Splash along to the water garden and peek over sculpted hedges and spot the follies that the Georgians built for parties and fun. Don’t forget to slide, zip and climb around the adventure playground too!

Children from six Harrogate schools have spoken from the heart whilst helping to make a new video being premiered today to promote the town.

The youngsters from St Peter’s, Coppice Valley, Birstwith & Admiral Long, Oatlands, Richard Taylor, and Western, take centre stage in the Harrogate BID-funded ‘I Love Harrogate’ film, which from Wednesday is being projected onto the window of an empty Cambridge Street shop, located opposite Beulah Street.

The aim of I Love Harrogate is to capture the innocence and imagination of our young Harrogate community, which will give everyone a positive and uplifting experience, and in turn give the town centre a greater community feel. It will also give families and schools in Harrogate ownership within the town centre.

This February half-term, Thackray Museum of Medicine presents its ‘Fabulous February’ programme of events which includes an array of activities and fun aimed at children aged from 0-5. After recently undergoing a £4million redevelopment project and becoming a finalist in Art Fund’s Museum Of The Year 2021, the museum is cementing itself as one of the region’s very best for discovery, learning and debate.

‘Bot Bonanza!’ launches on 19th February where kids will get to meet and interact with real robots, using VR to connect from the museum straight to Open-Labs, an exciting new project at the University of Sheffield. The robotic fun doesn’t stop there though, with opportunities to design your own robot, mask-making, a ‘Best Dressed Bot!’ competition and special viewings of Pixar classic ‘Wall-E’.

21st February will see the launch of Thackray’s new soft play area ‘Sparks!’, an exciting play experience where your little ones will help the Feelgood Friends, a colourful cast of animal characters as they run their sensory-themed roleplay medical centre before travelling through the body’s digestive system ending with a poo slide leading to a giant toilet- who said medicine can’t be fun?
