Join us for this fun-packed, creative computing week at Harrogate Ladies’ College this February Half Term.

Explore our desert island survival map in Minecraft, can you avoid the creepers? Will you survive the night?
Step into the amazing world of game design, create your own platform games to share with friends & family.
Get your thinking cap on and adventure through coding your own fruit jukebox (yes, you can really make your bananas sing!) or get a leg up with our robotics and (fun)gineering day!

Monday – NewsMaker This workshop enables students to produce their own television news programme whilst practising their writing, speaking and presentation skills. As a group we will produce a news reel programme where each child will produce a section on a topic that is important or special to them.

Tuesday – Robotics Packed with some of our favourite robots – Edison, Lego & Botley. Children will delve into the world of robotics, learning all about pulleys, motors, levers, and sensors along with coding and programming 3 different robots with 3 different coding languages. This workshop is not to be missed!

Wednesday – Micro:bit The pocket sized computer with huge potential. Children will get a real understand of the possibilities of coding and programming with the micro:bit. Throughout the day the children will transform the micro:bit into a digital game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors,’ a light meter that will display images depending on the level of light, a secret message Morse Code machine, and even a fruit jukebox!

Thursday – Sploder Game Making! Playing games is great but making them and understanding behind the scenes of game making is the really cool part! During this workshop children will design and build their very own platform computer games that can be shared with friends & family. Children will have control over all elements of the design and look of their game, adding in scenery, sprites (characters), ‘baddies’ and ‘bosses’ along with health, gold coins, jewels, the possibilities are endless!

Friday – Minecraft Desert Island Survival! The one we’re all waiting for! Our Minecraft Desert Island Survival map sees the children work in collaboration to build a new home on our desert island, encouraging the children to think about sustainability will see them collect materials from our ‘shipwreck’ in order to start building our village, for the trees we ‘break down’ we will plant more by collecting saplings. The children will grow their own food, keep their own animals and build their own transportation links. Towards the end of the workshop, we will venture out of our village to explore the abandoned castle for loot… or is it abandoned? We will gear up in Diamond Armour, just incase!

Our February half-term workshop has been designed to offer some real fun for tech-enthusiasts (and those who just want to know a little bit more) while providing a solid foundation in the understanding of creative computing, coding, robotics and game design. The children will work individually, as well as part of smaller or larger groups, reinforcing collaborative skills, problem solving and (often) leadership skills as they bounce off one another to ‘debug’ their programming, solve their engineering issue, or simply beta test each others games.”

During the holidays this year The Little Gym will be closed for classes for just one week from Good Friday on 10th April to Thursday 16th April. We will however be running 3 days of OFSTED registered holidays camps on 14th, 15th & 16th of April.  Our camps provide children with a fabulous variety of fun, activity, learning and gymnastics.  Themed sessions that change every camp stimulate physical and motor-skill development with gymnastics and games, all in the care of our qualified and dedicated team of instructors.

Camp Themes

AM Tuesday 14th April 3-8yrs – The Race to Outer Space

This stellar camp has our Super Kids racing into outer space to complete a quest on a different planet each day! Their Super Kid Capes will come in handy this week as they fly and dodge asteroids, comets and black holes!

PM Tuesday 14th April 3-8yrs – Animal Adventures

Puppies and guppies, chickens and ducks, what animals might you meet when you adventure with us?! This immersive animal adventure will include games, crafts and animals of all kinds. Each day your Super Kid will boost their brains and their bodies while developing a love and respect for the animals all around them!

AM Wednesday 15th April 3-8yrs – Harry’s School of Magic

Abracadabra, alakazam, let’s fly to Harry’s School of Magic as fast as you can! Each day will be a truly magical adventure with mysterious obstacles and mazes as the Super Kids practice taking risks and building self-confidence, all while making new friends! It will be a wonderfully wizardly time!

PM Wednesday 15th April 5-12yrs – Front Handspring Festival

This Skill Thrill Camp is perfect for those kids who have learned their handstand – and are ready to move to the next step – a “Front Handspring”! This camp is also great for kids who can do this skill by themselves – but just need some repetition and practice to solidify their technique and confidence. This Front Handspring Festival will also be an “Upper Body Fitness Festival” of sorts – as handstands and front handsprings are a great way to exercise the muscles of the arms, shoulders, chest and back!

AM Thursday 16th April 3-8yrs – The Neat Ninja League

The Super Kids will become Super Ninjas this week! Learning and using basic karate and martial arts skills to complete their quests, the Super Kids will be granted membership into the Neat Ninja League! Neat Ninja’s are very neat and responsible; they clean up their messes and they do their chores! As you might guess, we will have a fun focus on the importance of personal responsibility to round out the fun!

PM Thursday 16th April 3-8yrs – TLG Crazy Carnival

The Super Kids will experience seriously fun adventures at the Crazy Carnival! Using our safe equipment, music and imagination they will explore exciting carnival rides and wacky games with friends at The Little Gym! Crazy, right?!  “Come one, come all to TLG’s Crazy Carnival”
