ACTAcademy’s Creative Summer School is back, ready to save your summer!
This year we are running our ACTAcademy Summer School throughout July and August to give children a taste of some sort of normality. Our Summer School will allow your children to enjoy fun activities, make new friends, and nurture the skills that they have been unable to exercise during their time stuck at home, all within the safe walls of our fully Oftsed-registered building and private studios, and abiding by strict government Covid-19 guidelines.
Children can look forward to a week of fun, creativity and education where no day is the same! Our passionate DBS-checked teachers will lead your children on an adventure of discovery, development and joy over the week with the performing and creative arts at the core of our curriculum. Our Summer School is suitable for any child with any interests, currently at Primary School.
£120 early bird offer before 1st July. Childcare vouchers accepted.
Spend a week discovering the different elements that make up the magic of opera and theatre.
In the beautiful setting of Herd Farm in Eccup, North Leeds, participants will explore directing, designing, writing and composing, all based around the opera Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck.
Devised by professional artists from the world of opera and led by tutors from Opera North’s award-winning In Harmony programme, these workshops will be full of music, magic and fun. Participants will also get to experience a very special socially-distanced pop-up performance of Hansel and Gretel, performed by singers and musicians from Opera North.
All activities will be designed specifically for Covid-safe learning according to the latest government advice, and will make full use of Herd Farm’s beautiful 16-acre property.
We welcome all young people aged 8-11 who love being creative and have an interest in music, drama or art. No experience or musical ability is necessary. Please note places are strictly limited in accordance with government guidance.
BOOK HERE: Once you have booked your place on the Opera North Creative Camp you will be sent full details about the week and an online registration form to complete.
Applications close on 10th August for the Creative Arts Camp.
The Opera North Summer Strings Academy is an immersive week of ensemble training where young string players are tutored by and play alongside string players from the Orchestra of Opera North.
This camp focuses on the skills needed for playing in string ensembles and participants will spend the week playing exciting repertoire and discovering the special relationships between instruments within the string family. Everyone will be appropriately challenged to develop within their technical and musical ability in an inspirational and supportive environment.
Participants will be part of two ensembles – a large string ensemble, and a smaller ensemble such as a quartet or trio. Players will participate in creative composition workshops as well as strings specific masterclasses which give the opportunity for peer and professional feedback, as well as exploring specific string techniques.
Participants will be placed into a group of no more than 15 young musicians and accompanying orchestra members with whom they will remain for all sessions.
Venue: Leeds Town Hall
BOOK HERE. Once you have booked your place on the Strings Academy you will be sent full details about the week and an online registration form to complete.

We have created 6 very different weeks of activities planned very carefully around 6 brilliant and varied stories to entertain the children, whilst inspiring their creative side.
We are very aware that this summer is going to be completely different for our children, without being able to go on our usual holidays and day trips that would normally fill our summer holidays. So, we have created a way where children can delve into the realms of their imagination and enjoy activities that will make them feel uplifted and inspired, whilst in the safety of their own home.
The majority of our activities will not need any special resources or apparatus and for the 2 weeks, where the planned craft uses something a little different, these will be sent out to you. All craft resources needed will be sent out at the beginning of the holidays to give you chance to gather anything for future week.
As with everything we do, we want to be able to offer it to all at a price that can be inclusive and hope that your children have a fantastic summer with us. Here is the line up with the stories:
Week 1 (w.c. 27.07.20) – ‘Beautiful Oops’, by Barney Saltzberg
Week 2 (w.c. 03.08.20) – ‘Jack’s Amazing Shadow’, by Tom Percival
Week 3 (w.c. 10.08.20) – ‘The Adventurers’, by Rachel Elliot
Week 4 (w.c. 17.08.20) – ‘The Snail and the Whale’, by Julia Donaldson
Week 5 (w.c. 24.08.20) – ‘The Dragon Machine’, by Helen Ward
Week 6 (w.c. 31.08.20) – ‘The Koala Who Could’, by Rachel Bright
On Mondays you will receive an email with a video introducing the book and telling the story in our very own creative way. Also in this email will be an Explorers Sheet. This gives you another 5 activities or ways that the children can understand more of the story and the moral or theme behind it.
Tuesdays is all about music, with a Zoom class at 10:30am
Wednesdays is a drama day, with a very interactive Zoom class at 10:30am
Thursdays is the day of craft. This will either be a Zoom class at 10:30am or a video if the nature of the craft needs some pausing and coming back to. All craft resource lists will be sent to you when you sign up, so you’ll have chance to get everything ready before the class.
