This October half term there’s five fantastic family-friendly shows taking place at the Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds and at Leeds Town Hall.
At the Carriageworks Theatre, The Dong with the Luminous Nose (24 Oct) combines beautifully choreographed puppetry, sumptuous imagery, delightful music, and Edward Lear’s timeless poetry to create a unique theatrical experience. Lonely and desperate for love, Edward’s head is easily turned when the gaudy and seductive Jumblies float into town…
Learn incredible new vocal skills from world record-breaking beatboxer SK Shlomo who presents his five-star interactive sell-out show, Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids (27 Oct).
Time-travelling magicians Morgan & West’s brand-new show (29 Oct) is packed full of fabulous fun, frantic frolics, and fantastic facial furniture! The dynamic duo deals out a delightful dollop of deception – awesomely alliterative acts of amazement and astounding asymmetry await!
Watch in awe as performers climb, jump and swing through the air in the playful aerial theatre show, Tarzanna (30 Oct). A mischievous bunch of wild animals take Anna on a journey through the jungle of her dreams where they teach her the lessons of the wild. But when her new home is put in danger can she save her newfound friends?
And at Leeds Town Hall, join Timothy Pope (and his telescope!) for a triple bill of Nick Sharratt’s Shark in the Park adventures (30 Oct). This fin-tastic family musical, from the creative team behind The Hairy Maclary show, sees the entire series of Shark in the Park books – Shark in the Park, Shark in the Dark and Shark in the Park on a Windy Day – brought to life on stage!

The Dong with the Luminous Nose
Edward is a bit of an oddball. A shy and troubled boy, he is always watching the horizon, waiting for something to happen. Then one day “the Jumblies” arrive, and his life is turned upside down… then shaken about a bit… and then a bit more!
With a huge and colourful cast of abstract and figurative puppets, this absurd take on Edward Lear’s nonsense classic explores that difficult age between being a child and becoming an adult. Dancing chairs, a troublesome telephone and a swarm of shapeshifters all play their part in this tale of a lonely boy who has difficulty facing up to the facts.
Brought to you by the designer/director and composer partnership behind Little Angel Theatre’s Alice in Wonderland and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me.
Sunday 24 October, 1.30pm, Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds
Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids
World record-breaking beatboxer SK Shlomo is bringing back his 5-star sell-out show Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids to the Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds.
At the start of 2020, lockdown forced Shlomo to cancel over 100 shows. Instead, he created Homeskool Beatbox Adventures, a weekly interactive livestream empowering kids and their families to find their true voices and create their own music. For 30 minutes every Thursday, families around the world learnt new vocal skills from SK Shlomo and his talented friends including Bastille, KT Tunstall, and BBC Radio 1’s Dr Radha. Over six weeks, the Homeskool Beatbox Adventures community created their very own charity single and music video featuring hundreds of families worldwide singing, beatboxing, and performing together, raising over £3000 for the NHS and Black Lives Matter.
Now, it’s finally time to witness the incredible energy of this superstar beatboxer as he makes his long-awaited return to the stage.
