Community Fit is a local activity group based in Harrogate, they meet as a group on a Wednesday 5.45pm until 8pm.
Our aim is to create a community of local people who meet to be social and active while giving an hour or so of their time each week to help other people.
We connect activity and community through regular group sessions during which people will run, walk or cycle together from our base to a community group or charity where we help out before heading back to base.
Helping out can be anything from sorting donations to moving furniture, painting, tree planting, or litter picking.
A typical session would be:
You do not have to be a brilliant athlete to come along to a session. Many members power walk instead of running and we never leave anyone behind. Faster runners circle round and do relays so that we stay as a group.
You do not have to commit to every session. You book on as and when it works for you.
Chief Mumbler Sally joined the group in September 2023 and since then has helped out at a lot of local charities & organisations including:
Harrogate Homeless Project (Wesley Church town centre): Gardening * 2
Artizan Cafe (town centre): Helped decorate for Christmas
Harrogate BID (town centre): Litter pick
St Marks Church Leeds Road: Gardening
Richard Taylor School: Clearing poly tunnel & gardening
Harrogate Council: Delivering leaflets to combat loneliness

Community Fit is a weekly group who meet up to help out other local charities or groups (They help a different one each week) They meet up on a Wednesday evening and run to the charities location (there is also a walking group- no-one gets left behind!)
You can read more about the Community Fit Project and meet some of our members and partners in our Project Report.
All the information you need will be in the Playwaze event — including any suggested clothing or tools you might want to bring as well as a link to our planned route!
We meet at home base : there will be a lockable room for you to stash any belongings and a toilet available.
The run leader runs a group warm up then there is a social paced run to the organisation where we’re helping out – these runs are between 1 and 2 miles. We take into account all paces – no one gets left behind!
We help out at a local charity or organisation for about an hour – the tasks vary, so keep an eye on Playwaze to see what we’ll be doing that week!
Head back to base for a group stretch and to collect our belongings.
Quick drink at the local for those that fancy it!
Our FitStars are our amazing members.
It’s easy to join and you can take part in as many or as few events as work for you!
At the moment we meet on Wednesdays from 5:45 – 8:00, followed by a quick drink for anyone who wants to come along!
We’re aiming to have more day and time options once we’ve grown our FitStar crew a bit more – so if Wednesdays don’t work for you, keep an eye on our page!

Community Tasks are opportunities for individuals to support the community outside of the group context. This means you can do tasks when it suits your schedule and travel at your own pace.
Community Tasks support an individual in the community who might need a little extra help — helping folks to live independently for longer.
Common tasks might include gardening, putting together furniture, filling a bird feeder, or taking out the bins.
You don’t need to be attending our Group runs to be a TaskStar and support Community Tasks
Full training given (including Safeguarding training)
