We’ve just had to postpone our family summer holiday, we were meant to be going in June but have put it back to next year now. I suspect a lot of people have done this, with no real indication on when social distancing will come to an end is our summer holiday at risk? So we’ve put our heads together to come up with some brilliant staycation ideas!
Camping
This Christmas my parents kitted us out with all the camping kit you need for the ultimate family camping holiday! We’d been glamping a few times last summer and decided this would be the summer we became fully fledged campers. Its not looking very likely now – but that isn’t going to stop us! Mrs Mumbler got her kids out camping in the back yard earlier this week, a fire burning, she even managed to get them to eat some of the weird and wonderful tinned goods we’ve all been buying recently! Our garden is actually too small for our all singing all dancing tent, so instead we set up camp in the dining room! A few sheets over the dining table and a blow up bed with some torches did the trick! We’ve also heard of people with camper vans and caravans spending a night out on the front drive! Check out our latest blog of places to go camping in Yorkshire.
Festivals
We are always a big fan of Deershed at Mumbler and it’s looking unlikely that it’ll go ahead this year. But there are so many things we can do to create the festival vibes! Get the face paints and fancy dress on, see above for some camping ideas and then watch highlights of your favourite festivals online! You can catch most festivals on You Tube, or take a look at the BBC iplayer for some great Glastonbury highlights! Big Fish Little Fish do weekly Sunday Kitchen raves, me and my little girl have been enjoying these – we even got out in the sunshine last week and had a garden rave – proper Festival Sunday afternoon vibes!
Virtual Trips
We’ve written a few blog about this – take a look here and here! You can spend the whole week in Disney Land, a day trip to London or even a virtual trip to a Local Attraction including Stump Cross Caverns! One of my favourite holidays was a road trip with my girlfriends across California over 10 years ago, I was able to relive a little bit of that holiday with my daughter this week with a virtual trip to Monterey Aquarium!
Beach vibes in the Garden!
I saw this on my friend’s social media this weekend! It might not be Costa Del Sol temperatures just yet, but that shouldn’t stop us! Get the paddling pool out, get the plastic slide going into it, get the sandpit out and viola you’ve got your very own water park! Get the BBQ going, tunes and swim wear on and you’ll forget your only in the back garden! If you’re looking for some outdoor games, paddling pools or even hot tubs check out this blog from local company play-outdoors.
Skiing in the garden
Honestly, it can be done! Check out this brilliant video!
Stay safe, stay home. We’ll have plenty of time to go on holiday in the future!
