It’s the weekend! Hurray! Well not really, in today’s climate the thought of two whole days of doing nothing doesn’t seem that appealing anymore. In our household, both us parents are working from home in the week whilst also trying to home school our little one. It’s uber stressful, and we aren’t doing very well but at least the days seem to go quite quickly. So now its the weekend and its usually a time we live for, but with no distractions and just one walk a day to get us out the house, the weekend seems like a long old time to do nothing!
So it got me thinking, it got me googling, I’ve given myself a good talking to and I’m now ready for the weekend! With a world where we can’t leave our house, thanks to technology we can literally go anywhere thanks to good old virtual reality. So these are some of the things we’re going to enjoy over the next few weeks. Some local, some miles away – all from the comfort of our much sat on sofa!
Virtual Disney World
Theres a whole You Tube channel dedicated to Disney World and its brilliant!. Simply pan the camera anyway you wish by moving your smart phone or iPad to what you want to see without a VR headset. If viewing on a laptop or desktop, you can look around by simply clicking and dragging within the video.
We’ve been to Orlando, Paris and California this morning! Here’s some of the attractions available from the channel’s virtual theme parks.
National Theatre
I use to LOVE the NT when I lived in London. Join them every Thursday for much-loved National Theatre Live productions, free to stream on YouTube for seven days. I saw Two Men, One Guvnor with the brilliant James Corden years ago. I can’t wait to see it again – it’s my birthday on Friday so I might save it and watch it then! They’ll also be showing Jane Eyre and Twelfth Night so if you have older children studying these for English then I’m sure this counts as home schooling!
Harrogate Theatre
The fabulous HT released a livestream recording of Jack & the Beanstalk, their award-winning family pantomime from 2018/19, to celebrate World Theatre Day. They’re leaving it on You Tube all weekend for everyone to enjoy for free! Harrogate Theatre have launched an Emergency Appeal. For more information on how you can help please go here.
Yorkshire Virtual Attractions
Welcome to Yorkshire have a whole section on their website dedicated to Virtual tours of some of our favourite Yorkshire attractions. We were meant to visit Stump Cross Caverns for Mother’s Day – so we’re going tomorrow morning instead! I also might have a quick look round Rudding Park Hotel later – I’ve been wanting to go for ages!
London
Like many families, we were planning on heading down to London for a few days over the Easter Holidays. We’ve already been to a few of the virtual museums online – check out our other blog for more info. But today, I found this and I love it! A virtual tour of London streets! With the added bonus of no crowds!
