Open events are a great way to get a feel for a school, its staff, environment and general ethos, gather information, and ask questions specific to your child and circumstances. Some schools go one step further, by opening their doors on a normal teaching day and enabling prospective parents to see pupils and teachers ‘in action’.
The Acorns and Prep School Open Doors event on 7 February 2023 will offer this very thing. It is designed to give a look inside the Ashville learning experience for children aged 2 to 11, from our dedicated early years facility for our youngest pupils, all the way up to the springboard of Year 6.
So, what can you expect from the day?
Learn how important Outdoor Learning is at Ashville
Lessons took an exciting twist at the beginning of this academic year, with the introduction of Outdoor Learning for all pupils from Reception to Year 6, enabling them to learn traditional elements of the curriculum in an alternative, exterior setting. Mr Asa Firth, Head of Prep School, says: “Outdoor learning at Ashville Prep School is so much more than ad hoc forest school lessons that are sometimes offered at other schools; it is an integral part of our curriculum.”
Get a feel for the place
The facilities and use of space, from the classrooms, libraries, and halls, to the dedicated Outdoor Learning area, complete with emperor bell tent and fire pit, enhance what we do. Many speak of the ‘warm and friendly atmosphere’ at Ashville, and we’re confident you will experience this during your visit.
Witness the connection between pupils and their teachers
Our dedicated and passionate teaching staff take the time to get to know every child, ignite their imaginations and inspire and instil a love of learning in every Ashville pupil. So, you will find classrooms full of energy, care and enthusiasm for the topic being covered.
Enjoy meaningful one-to-one time with staff
Because open doors events tend to be smaller and more tailored than whole college open days, expect more dedicated time to speak to staff, particularly Mr Firth, or, if you’re looking at early years, Mrs Charlotte Cryer, Head of Ashville Acorns Pre-Prep.
Observe pupils who love their School
Whether you see pupils in lessons or meet them face to face, you’ll be able to tell they’re happy to be here and how excited they get about their lessons or co-curricular activities. Prep Head Girl, Rosie, said: “There’s so much you can do here. There’s a mix of academic work, co-curricular and sport, and you feel like you can do anything you set your mind to.”
