Harrogate-based Brackenfield School has creatively commemorated Remembrance Day, with a variety of tributes from the whole school community to mark the significant occasion.
Early Years pupils at the leading independent school have showcased their artistic flair, painting colourful red poppies onto pebbles, aptly naming them Kindness Rocks. In support of The Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal, pupils dispersed the poppy Kindness Rocks along Duchy Road for others to find. The school was delighted with the immense response received from the local community and passers-by who discovered the pebbles, with a number of warm wishes via the telephone and a wonderful letter of thanks.
As a further tribute to members of the Armed Forces, past and present, talented members of the school choir put together and performed a ‘Medley of War Songs’, which included recitals of ‘Pack up your Troubles’ and ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’. The outstanding performance was recognised by the Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Stuart Martin MBE, who shared the presentation on his social media.
Headteacher Joe Masterson commented, “The Kindness Rocks created by our children and beautiful choral performances are a fitting honour for this significant occasion, which we are pleased to be able to share with our wider school community. At Brackenfield School, we are well known for productions of outstanding quality which surpass all expectations for a small school. Our pupils have missed many of their public performances this year so it was a lovely way for them to showcase their talent publicly.
“We believe it is important for our pupils to sincerely commemorate the great loss of life from all over the world at this time. Community and Activities are two of our mission areas here at Brackenfield and we are therefore delighted to learn about all about Captain Sir Tom Moore and paint our very popular poppy pebbles. The reverence and respect captured through our songs is powerful and I am very proud of our pupils and the music department.”
