Who hasn’t been there right? That panicked feeling when your child misplaces their beloved comforter. It’s the scenario every child and parent dread!

Hi, I’m Hayley Howl, a local author based in Burley in Wharfedale, West Yorkshire. This is exactly what happened one day with my little girl and her comforter Bun Bun. Bun Bun was forgotten and left at the end of a busy day at nursery. As you can imagine my daughter was distraught. The only way I could think to try comfort her was for us to imagine all the exciting things Bun Bun would be getting up to at nursery that night. From this exercise of trying to offer Ella some comfort, I was inspired to write a story following Bun Bun’s adventures whilst he was lost.
Bun Bun’s Adventures is my first published children’s picture book aimed at 2-5-year-olds. It is a fun and sweet story with colourful illustrations that will engage children to follow Bun Bun’s journey. I’ve also been told by numerous parents it’s the perfect length for a bedtime book to calm and relax children for going to sleep! It could also be useful if you ever end up in a similar predicament.
With all the restrictions in place with Covid-19, it has been disappointing that I have not been able to get out into the community as a local author for book readings, school visits and book signings to raise awareness of my book.
Last week I did my first online reading for a wonderful local group called Storybees via Zoom. This went really well and the children found it exciting for a local author to be reading the story to them. If anyone runs a similar children’s group online and would be interested in a free copy and reading of my book then please contact me at [email protected]

Below are a sample of the reviews people have left showing how much they and their children have enjoyed the story. So does Ella get reunited with Bun Bun? Find out if she does whilst supporting me as a local author and buy a copy at Amazon, WH Smiths or Waterstones! Links to buy are at the top of the blog. Thank you!

Brilliant book– “A great book with lovely colourful pictures! My little girl loved me reading it to her. She especially liked it as she has a bunny rabbit just like bun bun and goes to nursery too. Definitely a favourite read in our house!”
Lovely story– “A lovely book. My son showed great concern for Bun Bun who was locked in the nursery but loved Ella and Bun Buns reunion. A great little story, I think it’ll be a long bedtime hit for both my children.”
The kids will love it!– “Such a fun little story about the adventures of “Bun Bun” who gets left at nursery – perfect for encouraging your child’s imagination to run wild!”
