This summer is all about Sanctuary in Play at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.
How do you enjoy nature? Do you run, jump and explore through the long grass being noisy for nature? Or do you like finding a moment of quiet in the sun and sharing a memory with friends and family.
Whatever way you engage with the world around you, one thing is for sure – summer is here and this 800 acre site is ready to welcome you.
Find something new to do every week of the six week summer holidays.
Fill your day on the Sanctuary in Play trail. Let go and start exploring in nature, make your own music, listen to the birds singing, find a moment of quiet in the sun and share memories with friends and family. Make your own journey stick along the way and share the stories of your adventure.
Fly like a ladybird, flutter like a butterfly and buzz like a bee as you wander through the abbey and water garden with your pollinator puppet. Head to Swanley Grange workshop every Tuesday and Wednesday in August, to start your crafting.
Join us for a family tour of the abbey. Do you have your robes at the ready? Find out what it was like to be a monk at Fountains Abbey on this free family tour. Can you stay silent like a monk? Can you keep to the abbey rules? Don’t worry, we have lots of robes for you to wear… adult-sized robes available too.
Fancy helping our teams out? Try your hand at pond weeding with the gardeners or river dipping with the Skell Valley Project team.
Think you’ve done it all? Think again.
Wobble, jump and climb your way through the adventure play area, just a two minute walk from the visitor centre. Take a walk through the quiet summer garden, climb to the high ride to see some of the best views. If you have energy left, take a visit the deer park. Admire the views down to Ripon Cathedral and see if you can spot any deer.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is open daily 10am – 6:30pm (last entry at 4:30pm) and there’s no need to book, just come along and have fun in the sun. For everything you’ll need to know – visit Visiting Fountains Abbey with kids | National Trust
