‘Things weren’t good at home. I was sent to my room a lot, mum and my step dad were always shouting at me, telling me I was stupid and lazy and stuff. I got punched and hit quite often.
My step dad hit me really hard once when I couldn’t do my homework and left a bruise which one of my teachers saw and then I got called in to the office at school. That’s when things started to turn around for me, really.
Now I am living with a foster family, we have proper family meals and stuff. We laugh and joke and watch tv together – I can have a friend round after school if I want – and my foster mum has let me join some after school clubs too which is awesome – I really look forward to going home now which I haven’t done for ages and ages.’
