The packed lunch project started with our Living Room Cafe staff, a group of mums seeing a rise in parents needing a food bank or just generally struggling to feed their kids over the holidays. We had food that would go to waste and realised we could utilise it to make packed lunches to feed the many people that we see every day.
We trailled the project first on the Friday before February half term; we put a very urgent post out on Facebook with the offer to come and get a free packed lunch if you think it would benefit you and your family … We handed out 68 packed lunches that day !
So we are going for it again this time for two days over the Easter holidays. If your family would benefit from free packed lunch/es this easter then please don’t be shy!
Not only will it allow us to help local families, it will ensure that perfectly good surplus food from the cafe doesn’t go to waste.
The two collection days are:
Thursday 6th April and Thursday 13th April
Collection is from 10 am till 12.30pm
Collection is from The living room cafe in Starbeck (opposite the library behind the Methodist church at the end of the car park green door )
These packed lunches are completely free and no referral or questions asked ( apart from how many people can we help you feed )
We are a group of mums wanting to take the pressure off a fellow parent for just one day and if a packed lunch can do this then power to the packed lunch !
The food bank will also be available on the same days so if you are wanting to find out more or are in need but need a friend to help you through then we can do that at the same time.
Thanks so much for your support if you would like to support this project with a donation this can be made in the form of monetary to the living room or donations of multipacks of crisps or cake bars for us to add to our packed lunches.
