Saturday 25 May to Sunday 2 June, 10am-6:30pm with last admission at 4:30pm.
Join in with the ‘Making Faces’ tree trail as you explore. Grab a sheet from admissions and follow the map to help you on your adventure in nature, completing activities as you go. See how many clay faces you can find hidden in the trees. What expressions are they making? Can you copy them and look happy, angry, fierce or mysterious? Pick up fallen leaves, twigs and features on your journey and have a go at making your own clay face.
This half-term you can get crafting and make your own flower decoration to take home. Cut, weave and colour your own spring flower. Pick your favourite wool and create a vibrant flower worthy of attracting lots of bees, butterflies and moths. Head to Swanley Grange between 11am – 3pm to start crafting.
On 26 May you can also join Hoglets Theatre and Ripon Theatre Festival on a magical journey of singing owls, fantasy worlds, friendship and love. Watch a 40 minute puppet show, and join in with an optional puppet-making activity. Visiting on a weekend?
There’re plenty of things to discover here at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Become an abbey adventurer and discover all the hidden corners of the abbey – can you hear an echo in the cellarium? Will you find any hidden faces or carved figures? How many staircases can you find throughout the ruins? Don’t stop at the abbey… head to the water gardens and climb up to the Banqueting House to find some lawn games and dressing up costumes. Why not try a walk on the high-ride this to find some of the best views and follies… you’ll need to dash through the deep-dark serpentine tunnel to get there!
If you need to refuel you’re never too far from a café! Wander to Studley Tea Rooms or visit Mill Cafe for a sweet treat, hot drink and ice cream – with benches outside it’s the perfect spot for enjoying a view of the abbey or lake. If you need something a little more filling, head to the Visitor Centre Restaurant and find a selection of main meals, hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats. Indoor and outdoor seating is available at all three outlets or you can choose to take your purchases away with you.
And don’t forget to head to the shop before you head home. Head to the children’s corner to pick up some cool stuff for your little explorer. You’ll find everything from den-making kits and binoculars to bug-tracking tools and stationery. There’s a great selection of pocket-money picks, too.
