With the weather getting colder and the nights getting darker, November is the perfect time to see the trees dressed in deep reds, bright yellows and shining golds. Put your wellies on, wrap up warm and crunch in leaves as you walk, run and explore around the estate – what autumnal delights will you discover?
Start your half term with a day out to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Get to know the trees around the estate – big trees, little trees, those with leaves and those without, what will you discover? Once you’ve finished exploring, why not have a go at making your own leaf silhouette in Swanley Grange, from 11am-2pm on 28 October – 5 November. You can use pre-cut templates or fallen leaves you’ve picked up on your adventure.
As November draws to an end, it’s time to start getting ready for Christmas. Watch the afternoon light start to fade, make your way to the abbey and wander through the ruins aglow with bright and colourful lights. The abbey will be illuminated on 25 and 26 November from 2pm-5pm. You can listen to choirs and bands playing in the abbey cellarium, from 2pm-3pm, and sing along to your favourite carols as festive music fills the air.
As always, there’s plenty of things to discover here at Fountains Abbey– why not try a walk on the high-ride to find some of the best views. Dash through the deep-dark serpentine tunnel. whiz along the zip-line in the adventure playground and hear the stags roaring in the deer park as they compete for status in the annual rut?
