The death of a much loved husband prompts a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire Women’s Institute to do an extraordinary thing. Blasting away all preconceptions of what it is to be in a women’s institute, they decide to do an artistic nude calendar to raise money for charity.
With unforgettable songs, every performance continues to add to the millions already raised for charity and also prove that there is no such thing as an ordinary woman.
This show is full of fun and emotion which will leave you laughing and crying at the same time!
This is a community production presented by Ripon Amateur Operatic Society and is running from Wednesday April 26th to Saturday 29th April at Harrogate Theatre.
Last night myself and Mumbler Champion Nic were lucky enough to be invited to the opening night of Calendar Girls The Musical, a community production presented by Ripon Amateur Operatic Society. I absolutely love live theatre, especially musicals, but this was my first time watching an “Am Dram” performance. I must admit I had a few preconceived ideas; the sets would be more Blue Peter style than usual, there’d be forgotten lines, and well for want of a better word, I’d expect it to be a little amateur.
Boy was I wrong! There was NOTHING amateur about this performance. Everything about the production was phenomenal and highly polished. I actually can’t believe some of the cast (actually ALL) aren’t performing on the West End every night! What a talented bunch of folk!
I call myself a musical fan – but I’d never seen Calendar Girls The Musical before – I remember the film adaptation from a few (probably 20 now!) years ago so knew the story line. What a story line it was, I was in tears at some points, laughing my bottom off at others!
I feel like I can’t single out one performance, because they were all so brilliant – and everyone on, and off the stage made that performance what it was – exceptional! A must see – you’ll leave with a huge smile on your face.
Thank you for inviting us Ripon Amateur Operatic Society – we had a ball!
Tickets are still available for the rest of the performances (you need to be quick – it’s only on until Saturday 29th April) – BOOK NOW!
